8300 Obex?

i suppose this title is pretty self explanitory.... but is OBEX possible on the vx8300?

Nope, sorry, Verizon took this away from us. Maybe they'll give it back in a future firmware upgrade if we all make sad puppy dog faces.

If you're looking to transfer files to and from your computer using Bluetooth, however, you can accomplish this using the Serial Port profile.

people were able to get it back on the v710 with a simple seem edit. i was hoping maybe someone found a similar hack on this phone. i'm sure its at least possible!

Pople were NOT able to get Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers back on the V710 seem edit or otherwise..

we were able to get bluetooth file transfers using Motorola Phone Tools (aka MPT).. BUT that is NOT the same...

Just like the Chocolate supports the Bluetooth serial port profile and can be used with BitPim via Bluetooth to transfer files.. BUT the chocolate does NOT support Bluetooth OBEX File Transfer Profile...

And if Verizon left the Bluetooth OBEX File Transfer Profile OFF of the phone (like they did with the Moto V710 and V3M, and certain firmware revisions for the Moto V3C).. then it is NOT Possible!

Agreed, but i'm hoping to find some way also, this would make the greatest phones of all from verizon, anything with OBEX is cool with me :-).

actually..... what the hell is OBEX then? if you can use the bluetooth serial port to transfer files, what more would you be getting with the OBEX enabeled? is it just a more simple method of transferring files around?

Yes, its more simple...

Not sure I'm going to do a good job explaining this... but here goes...

OBEX = Object Exchange. There are multiple types of OBEX... File Trasfer profile (aka OBEX FTP, or Obex File Transfers) being the most commonly referd to by people just saying OBEX...

Having BT Obex file transfers would allow me to transfer files between my PDA, Phone, PC, or other bluetooth enabled device with no added software needed.. only the device and its bluetooth drivers... So as long as your device, PC or MAC support bluetooth OBEX FT's... you're set...

With Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers on my Moto E815, I can freely transfer files between my PC, iPAQ 2215 and my E815, drag and drop, etc.. If I had a MAC, again.. no problems.. and no special software needed.

NOT having Bluetooth OBEX File Transfers on my Moto V710 or my LG Chocolate, I am limited to transfers using COMPATIBLE PC Based software which gives me more or less... "cablelesss" file transfers...

Taking advantage of the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile on the chocolate, I can use BitPim as if I had a USB Data cable, but without the cable. Now there is no BitPim for a Pocket PC or palm pilot, so there is no way to transfer files between them and your phone...

When it comes to my Moto V710, it supports file transfers via bluetooth, BUT YOU MUST USE Motorola Phone Tools to do it, as MPT uses "modem like" commands to do the file transfers... It does not support the serial port protocol, so you CAN't use BitPim via Bluetooth with the V710... Again, this type software does not exist on the PDA, and it doesn't exist on a MAC or Linux either... So with the V710, I'm limited to file transfers with a Windows PC only

So if your phone (or device) does support Bluetooth OBEX File Transfer profile, no matter what operating system your PC/PDA has, you can still transfer files back and forth easily...

How can they take away something they never gave you?
