Ignore my above question...I realized it's Telus's patented crippling of nice phones...

1 question though, is it better to transfer one mp3 at a time, then delete the two files and reboot for each one, THEN proceed to add more one at a time? In the past, I've had a few Telus phones fry from doing too much at once. Or would it be ok to add maybe 10 mp3s and delete the two files and reboot? Will it survive?

    Thanks

editl: The above posted version of Bitpim doesn't have the V3c available to choose in the phone drop down menu...do I just select other CDMA phone?

Anyways, has anybody bothered to use programs like P2KTools on it yet?

Unfortunately, MPT is for windows format only. The other way is if you run VPC. Not sure how smooth it would run but it's better than nothing. Once you've got VPC emulating, install MPT. Once MPT is installed and updated to the latest version, you don't need to find drivers because updated MPT also updates the drivers.

It actually wasn't too hard to figure out, as Baggio4eva mentioned a good hex editor and knowledge of phone filesystems makes thing much easier, and it is also very similar to the LG work around on the 6190.

I have transferred many at once, then deleted the 2 database files with no problems, after all, this phone does have ample memory onboard, you won't hurt a thing doing multiple files, keep in mind that if you delete ringtones from your phone (using your phone) you will still need to delete the 2 files through BitPim so the database can be rebuilt again, and update the phone to remove the deleted ringtones from your phone menu.

I have tried with PST and P2K Commander as well, but this method is not exactly user friendly, and can be even worse to get working with the V3c, not too mention the potential damage you could do to your phone if you are not familair with these tools, therefore I do not recommend it.

Sweeeeeeet... It works... heres what I did... thanks to Talus91
Loaded about 20 mp3 ringtones i wanted off MPT (version 4.0.4b)
    closed MPT

    Download/Install BitPim (version 0.8.07)
-Phone type -> 'Other CDMA Phone'
-Com Port -> browse -> 'Motorola USB modem'

    View -> view filesystem
Will show the filesystem tab, click the plus sign and it will retreive the files on your phone (takes a couple of seconds)
    delete the 2 files
    -"MyToneDB.db"
    -"TmpTneDB.db"
    reboot

it does regenerate those 2 files after the phone is rebooted

you could also get rid of the shutter sound by replacing the shutter wav file with one that has no sound; attached a zip file the muted wav file

i replaced shutter3.wav and it makes no sound when i take a picture

last night i had a strange occurence (hey maybe this hack will help???????)

i was programming a buncha contacts in and i had assigned a ringtone to a "Catergory" (i.e. Group - in LG lingo). went to a club last night and had the phone on Vibrate but when a contact called from said Category, it rang instead of vibrating! has anyone else experienced this??

btw, i really hate to spoil this thread - i am dying to try my first hack - please let me know if you would like me to post this question elsewhere!

I have MPT 4.04b and when I connect the phone to it, all of the icons are available to me except Multimedia Studio. It is greyed out. When I mouse over it, it says "This function is unavailable because another function or data connection is open, or the phone is still initializing"

Anyone know how to fix this?

I've aso gotten Bitpim to work fine. I just can't get the mp3s on because of damn MPT

You might want to try going into settings, and change modem, then have it detect your phone again, if that doesn't work you may also want to try to change it to a V3cm using the same procedure.
