I have a Working PIX Place Alternative on LG VX6100 with VERIZON

    Hello all,
After much tinkering I was able to get a PIX place alternative working on my LG VX6100 with Verizon service.

You need. A WAP 2.0 gateway and an apache server with php and mod_rewrite and your own domain where you have access to the / directory.

    First get MMS Diary
    http://hellkvist.org/software/#MMS%20Diary

set it up in the directory /servlets on your webspace. It must be the root of the domain, this is very important.

in this directory add an .htaccess

    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteRule ^mms$ send.php

    next go into the phone:
    Menu>0>000000>*>899667

change the 5 MMSC Server to your domain name, leave the http
    ie http://www.yourdomain.com

    change the 8 Upload Address
    to your domain, no http

the phone will automatically get http://www.yourdomain.com/servlets/mms

I can't figure out how to change this, that is why I used the mod rewrite to redirect to servelets/mms send.php.

    Hope this works for you.

I'm guessing it still costs $.25 to send it to your own site though?

I hope I won't get charged. I will find out in a month or so.

The forums for the v710 says that if the servers are changed then you won't get charged the .25, just the airtime.

    time will tell

verizon will only charge you .25 if you send through their server. (so if you change it, pix is free)

i'm from the v710 forum, i was able to send it to nuclearelephant.com 's free demo storage, but is anybody willing to put up their webspace with MMSDIARY configured so we can all send free pix messages??

uhh i'm pretty sure its not meant to be unzipped. i dont know much about PHP, CGI or linux, but i think it has to do with one of those.

but you can extract all the files in a .tar.gz with winRAR. winrar is better for unzipping anyways. but yah, i dont know how to set it up, hopefully you or someone else does

Well you have to unzip it, but your souposed to unzip in on Linux, and not windows. I'm wanting to unzip it on windows, then upload it to a linux machine.

I tried using Nuclear Elephant's storage thing with my VX6100 but it said 404 error URL not found...

I'll try setting up an apache server at my house today, hopefully I'll be able to get my pic messages that way. If not, I'll be forced to buy a $25 cable.

I am running MMS Diary on WindowsXP no problem. I haven't gotten the Nuclear Elephant one working because I don't know how to tell APACHE to run the compiled binary as a cgi (it is not PHP or perl). I assume if you can figure this out, and rename it /servlets/mms (or use a re-write rule), it would work just fine

MMS Diary comes as a .tar.gz which Winzip will handle just fine. extract it to a directory then rewrite send.php as I wrote in the first post.

Also, if you need an Easy APACHE/PHP on windows install I used the Apache 2.0 version:
    http://server.paehl.de/

does this just allow you to send your pictures to storage? or does it also let you send pix messages from your phone to other phones through a different server (skipping the $0.25 charge) ?

with my v710, i'm able to send my pics to nuclearelephant.com's demo storage server, but i cannot get it to send to other phones! whats goin on??

This is why I love this forum. Thanks to you guys, I just got this set up on my server. Thank you!

One question, though. I haven't used the VX6000 very much, so I was wondering if there is an option to send to PIX Place, and are they configurable in the same manner? Thanks for any help, guys.

The MMS diary only allows you to send to your own server and skip the .25 charge.

The SMiL(e) server (Nuclear Elephant) can be configured to use sendmail to forward messages to other phones via email (I think). I haven't tried it as I cannot get it Apache to deal with it right.

I beleive the VX6000 can be configuered in a similar manner as I read how to get into the MMS settings from a post for some other LG phone, but I don't know for sure.

I am unable to unzip it. When I try, I get an error, and I've tried two different computers.

Would anyone be so kind as to zip it up for me, and send it to me?
