Well, nice to see another Italian speaker on here! Anyway, I wouldn't agree that you don't speak them well... I think you're pretty good!

    A few little things:
    * Mi piacciono la lingua... (2 languages = plural, requires piacciono)
    * Sono in una classe (remember nel is in + definite article - 'the' - here you want the indefinite article - 'a')
    * Tengo 3 años... pero no lo hablo bien - remember that hablarlo is just the infinitive, you've got to conjugate the verb to give the meaning of "I don't speak it well", rather than "To not speak it well"

Aside from those everything seemed a.o.k. to me!

    Anyway, keep posting!

    Cheers

And I will be taking my first French courses next year as a beginner in France...so that should be interesting.

    Nessun problema!

Italian is definitely my favourite, though that's probably 'cause, aside from English, it's my strongest language... I've been studying it for years.

I did study French for years, but dropped it last year, and picked up Spanish instead. I definitely don't regret what I did - in my opinion Spanish rocks!

Anyway, good luck in your language-learning journey!

    Cheers

My best friend is Italian and he is from Trieste. He speaks both standard Italian and his native dialect, Triestino. I love Italy, I've been there twice, once in 2001 to visit the touristy spots such as Venice, Siena, Florence & Pisa. Then last year I went to Trieste for the 1st time to meet my friend. The Trieste area is beautiful, it's one of the least known spots in that country and the coastline along the Adriatic Sea north of Trieste reminded me of the coast of Northern California where I'm originally from.

My x-wife could read, write and speak English, French, Spanish and Hebrew. She could also speak Arabic. From what I was told by her sister a couple of months ago she is now fluent in Chinese as well.. WoW!!

I have a hard enough time with English... Good to see everyone helping one another out here.

Aunchi io posso parlare l'italiano!

    Well, here's a quick explanation:

When talking about different languages one can use either idioma or lengua (e.g.: Yo soy estudiante de idiomas/Yo soy estudiante de lenguas).

The word 'lenguaje' does translate as 'language' in English, but has a different meaning: "The language which the author uses is very simple and easily understood" - we all know that the author isn't writing in some easy-peasy foreign language, rather we refer to the words/structures he/she is using as the 'language' of the text.

Hopefully that'll've cleared it up a little.

Just remember, despite it 'a' ending, idioma is masculine!

    Cheers

Bellissima!

GREAT! Obviously, I speak Italian and Spanish, and in fact I'm thinking of going to Salamanca during the summer for 6 weeks to study Spanish. Perhaps you could tell me where the most interesting places round there are?

Also, INNOVA, can you tell me: do you have any experience using GPRS in Salamanca? When I'm there in the summer (as part of my university course), I am definitely gonna get a prepay SIM-card for calls, and for data. I'll be hooking up through my P900, PowerBook (yet to be purchased), and possibly XDA II. Telefonica at the point appear to be the only network who offer full-internet GPRS access to prepay customers. It's 8€/MB, which isn't cheap, but it'll be so worth it to maintain access to internet, email, HoFo, while there... Beautfiul.

    Cheers

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Only one year and six months after my original question... Lol.

(Gracias por la respuesta rápida. Sólo un año y seis meses después de mi pregunta original... Jajaja.)

I should probably thank you for getting me back on HowardForums, I'd been missing for quite a while recently, mostly on Mac forums...
