TMobile now does Auto transfer of eSIM

Got my new iPhone 15 yesterday and waited until this morning to set it up expecting problems with transfer of eSIM. Last time I checked, TMO required you to call in or go to store to verify before allowing the transfer. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to transfer it using the Apple set up process with no problem at all. Received email from TMO confirming transfer and verified my making and receiving call on new phone.

The setup of my new iPhone 15 Pro was totally seamless, including the transfer of my T-Mobile account from one e-SIM to another. All I had to do was answer "OK" a couple of times and then go do something else for a while, while the two phones sitting side by side did the rest. Great job, Apple and T-Mobile!

I was pleasantly surprised too. My sister ordered iPhone 15 Pro. As the tmobile account holder I was getting ready to transfer her tmobile service from old phone to new. It turned out she successfully handled that completely without me. I feel a little sad I am not needed anymore

anyone done this recently with an iPhone SIM to eSIM transfer? My plan is from 2003 and I'm wondering if I'll run into any issues if I get a newer eSIM-only iPhone.

to answer my own question, the transfer from SIM to eSIM using Apple's Quick Transfer or whatever it's called, went fine.

I wasn’t able to do this with my insurance replacement on Friday.

I was away from home with no access to any other iOS device and with 2FA my activation hung. I went to a retail store and they forced the activation through.

only works when you have the two iphones side by side.. the security token gets transfer from one iphone to another.
    remotely it does not work.

Hence, the flaw with the eSIM system. But we'll have to live with it as physical SIMs get phased out.

Yup, We even did eSIM swaps between an old 12 we handed down, an iPhone 14, and iPhone 15 and was able to trade in the old Xr for the full credit. Was able to do it all in the settings and just put the phones next to each other. It asked for my account PIN and SSN.. them moved it with no intervention from T-Mobile at all.

Apple really has made the process easy to swap between iPhones.

I wanted to use my 2023 Razr over the weekend, and it wanted me to call or go to a store to activate it.. meh i'll just use my iPhone. T-Mobile needs to fix the online process so I can do eSIM swaps again.

I know that Apple tends to get away with doing its own thing, but it is interesting that they can do this when others seemingly cannot. On the other hand, travel eSIMs are able to do this rather easily as well. Maybe it's because those are not typically controlled by the US carriers.

This is why I will continue to use a sim card until I can't.

Even the Visible SIM I activate sometimes can move via an app, Verizon? can do it online. It's just AT&T and T-Mobile that seems to be a pain in the *** with it.

For those that are on prepaid and see this, transfer with iPhones does not work, will need to call in.
