S9 not receiving texts after being turned on

We've been using a Samsung S9 for several years on my mom's line with AT&T and never had this issue before. Several days ago she was able to use data (internet) but could not place or receive voice calls or text. I toggeled the Airplane mode on/off and reset the APN to make sure it was correct, powered the phone off and back on.
After that the S9 was working again, could place and receive calls and text.
BUT since then we have noticed that when the phone is powered off at night (on the charger) that the next day when it's powered back on, that any text or voicemails that were left are not being sent to the phone. So I tested it yesterday, turned the S9 off, sent it a text, waited 5 minutes and turned the S9 back on. The text never showed up. So it seems that it's not being "pushed" by AT&T after the phone is powered back on. This problem just started, as before the S9 iwould always get any text messages that were sent to it after being powered on.

I'm not really sure what else to do...unless having to call AT&T support?

    try this

    1. On Samsung devices, try Settings > Apps > Messages > Storage instead.
    2. Tap the Clear cache button and see if your texts are working.

If I were to do that, clearing the message cache, then all the current text messages on the phone would be gone I believe.

If it is important enough to you to be able to receive those new messages, it is only a minor inconvenience. Just wondering, do you know how much storage those saved messages are using? Are you sure your phone hasn't used its messaging capacity?
    Just another day in paradise.....

I'll have to look and check her S9 tonight.
But last night I sent a test Text while it was off and it came through today when powered on.
But just to clarify the issues was only happening when the S9 was powered off, any text sent to it while off would then not download when it was then powered back on.
But once it was on, it then would receive new text messages.

If this continues, perhaps leave the phone on at night and set an on and off time with do not disturb.

I do that with my Samsung S23 phone currently. No issues for me.

The problem seems to have been fixed several days ago after I turned the airplane mode on/off, went into Settings and did a network reset, and also a APN reset. Now when she powers the S9 on, any text or voice messages that were sent while it was off will get downloaded to the phone like normal.

What's weird is yesterday my S22 Ultra was sending texts just fine, and then later in the day they would fail to send. I did an airplane mode on/off and then was able to send the texts.

So it makes me think it might me something (glitch) with AT&T in the area.

FWIW for future reference, the SMS database is stored outside the SMS app on Android. You can erase SMS app data and reset cache all day long, the messages will stay intact.
