You wouldn't have to share space on every device you have for the same photo. It's even likely at least one of your Android devices already uploaded some or all of your photos on a given device to your free Google Drive allocated space of 15 GB. I do believe however that having a photo as a part of a GV text message (essentially using that as a storage location) uses up that allocated free storage as well (I don't fully understand the implications). But using Google Photos centralizes your access and should make things easier to manage. On newer devices it also is the local photo app, replacing the older Gallery-type apps. Maybe you already know this and have your own reasoning for how you implement things.
    Thank you for the input.

I don't take pictures very often so they don't really take up very much space on my devices or in my storage locations. I have most backed up to Google drive. I tend to keep those in folders related to backing up my individual phones so I know what I have on each of them in case I lose a phone or files corrupt. Some of the photos I utilize for wallpaper.

I usually use the Simple Gallery apps to organize a few things I do keep on my devices. They have some useful editing features although not as many as I would like. The Simple Gallery apps don't pop notification reminders on my phones and they don't make me feel spied on.

I've tried Google Photos but I didn't like how it was always horning in on everything that I did on my phones. I felt too much like I was being spied on by A Great Big Googly eyeball.

For whatever reason I like to keep photos discreet to each device, and not have every one on every device. Some are screenshots relative to that particular device, or used for wallpaper.

I do realize that Google stores photos off of the device and I can access them on all my devices if I log in to the service, but every time I took a picture or added a photograph to a folder in internal storage, it was asking me questions and I just decided for the volume of photos I take which is relatively low, and low quality, that I could deal with them privately without notification reminders coming from Google.

I usually delete the photographs from Google Voice as soon as I distribute them to what devices I want them on. That way I don't use up my storage or have redundant storage going on that isn't necessary.

It's one of the reasons I keep Google Voice on so many devices that aren't activated, just for transferring things back and forth more quickly than synchronizing Bluetooth. The photo immediately appears on multiple devices. I also distribute notes and links that way while I'm working on or searching things.

I also use Google Voice to send photographs as MMS because it saves me sending it over my messaging app and costing service charges on my active phones.

Although heaven knows I have so much active service I probably wouldn't use it up sending MMS messages anyway. But the person I'm sending it to is familiar with my Google Voice telephone number and it would drive them crazy if I keep switching phones to send them messages.

To be fair I did use Google Photos for a while, but its busybodying annoyed me on some level, so I logged off on it never use it anymore.

Between the Pure and the Play, I'd opt for the Play. I'm just leery of MediaTek-based phones and the Pure sounded laggy when I looked into it. I have 2 Plays, one TF branded and one AT&T branded. Both were bought new. The TF is my daily and I have a T-Mobile sim in it.

Yes, I have a TF Moto Play and it’s a pretty good phone. I like to sample different phones, but avoid ones that seem to get negatively dinged a lot. I have seen quite a few low ratings for the Pure.

I was looking at an allegedly NIB Pure on eBay but despite 100% good seller feedback, no way of knowing if it was opened and glued shut, if it was properly scanned at checkstand, etc so even if cheap it's probably better paying more from a known seller. The eBay Pure box looked crumpled and the flaps didn't look flush with the box sides.
