Google wants you to use their Photo app to view/manage photos. I just download one of the Gallery apps from the Play Store. The annoying thing is that most of those free apps will play ads after you view your photos.

Photos was the first thing I tried, but it does not seem to recognize screenshots taken by the A3 (and won't back them up). According to Files, they are being put in Internal Storage - Pictures - Screenshots which seems like a reasonable place to put them. It did back up screenshots taken with my previous LG Android 8.

Photos also does not flag those pictures which are actually stored on the phone.

edited: Settings - Backup - Back Up Device Folders, lists Screenshots as a folder that can be backed up, but was not. If I turn that on for the Screenshots folder, then a new screenshot shows up immediately in the app, whether backed up or not.

I've been using Simple Gallery app for years (orange icon) and have never had it pop ads on me. No ads at all other than asking to be rated or to try the pro version. However they changed it and the icon is now purple. It seems it's no longer free, there's a 14 day trial.

I haven't updated from the orange version wherever possible, but I have the purple version on some phones.

Here's the paid pro version. Not very good ratings on either version. I've used the free version for a long time but never tried Pro. I do like the former free version, very simple.

I used the free Quick Pic app for a long time without ads, but now it starts playing the annoying Tik Tok ad.

Husband hates Google Photos. I found him "Gallery - Simple and Fast", its free and no ads. He likes it so far.

To use Google Photos to view locally stored pics (on the phone), once you have the app open you hit the Library tab at the bottom, and most locations a photo would be show up under a relevant heading. Not sure, but if you've taken a screen shot it might show up in an Album called Screenshots. Otherwise use the Files by Google app and it'll be available there as well. I didn't like the loss of a proper Gallery-type app either at first, but between Photos and Files it's working out fine.

That tik tok ad just drives me nuts. it hasn't appeared on my Gallery app because I have an older version that doesn't do stuff like that, but I do have some apps where once in awhile that thing pops up while I'm doing something. It's loud and obnoxious and I usually have to crash the app and come back again to get rid of it because it doesn't let me exit. I uninstalled an app because it was doing that all of the time.

I do not use GooGoo Photos. Too complex for my poo brain.

I looked at "Gallery-- Simple and Fast" and it is extremely simple, a good viewer if no editing is needed. I couldn't find editing features.

However, I did find one that has the same editing features as Simple Gallery app I use. Someone mentioned in a review that it was a direct copy of it. Might be worth looking at.

One of the things I liked about the Simple Gallery app was that it didn't collect personal information that it had no right to access.

I've used QuickPic for a long time as well. I don't really get any ads yet.

If you update the app to the latest version, and happen to have WiFi or data on when using the app (to email or text a picture) the ads will show up. Read the reviews and you'll see how bad it is. It get 1.4 star now.

Thanks for the link to the reviews. That is bad. And unfortunate that a good app is made unusable like that.

My saga has come to an end. The credit card dispute was resolved:
we've resolved your dispute... We credited your account for the full disputed dollar amount.
I suspect TF simply ignored the credit card company but who knows. I should call in about my replacement ticket and see if it's still open. It wouldn't surprise me if it is.
