Thinking of trading Tracfone Galaxy A51 refurb for a new Galaxy A54 from Samsung.

I bought a refurb A51 for $70 from tracfone and it came in perfect condition. I did the unlock after the 60 day requirement. Is it considered eligible for trade-in on Samsung.com? Anyone have any experience with trade-ins with Samsung?

If they will accept the trade-in they would give me $200 towards the A54 making it $250. Does that sound like a decent deal? I'm also assuming the A54 would work with GSM tracfone service and I can take the sim card from the old A51 and install it in the A54 and the phone will work correct? I may need to find another provider once they fully switch to Verizon towers.

I've never paid more than $100 for a phone and that was the motorola Z2 force ebay deal. Just trying to decide if a newer phone and features are worth the money. Having 4 years of upgrades and 5 years of security updates is a big selling point for me. I also like Samsung's UI.

The factory unlocked A54 should work with Verizon TF as well. Obviously you'd have to transfer your service from your current SIM to a Verizon TF SIM. But those transfers are usually easy to do.

With Samsung I don't think you need to unlock it. I've traded locked devices into them before. You can trade it in as long as it is in good condition which it sounds like it is.

Thanks for posting this. I actually might trade in a TF Galaxy A03 I got as an extra phone for a Rewards purchase as they're also giving a $200 credit for that device to.

Funny how they increased the trade-in values of some lowly phones like A10e, A03 and they end up having higher value than an S10.

BTW, the one sold by TF is an A03s which is not the same as the A03 that's on Samsung's trade-in list.

This is a nice deal. Samsung is even giving $200 for the Galaxy A11 towards a purchase of the Galaxy A54 5G. I think I bite on this one. I have an A11 that I have no use for sitting in box.

Oops, I have an unlocked TF A03s that I could have used as a trade-in.

Although I have a refurb A51 and a used A10e, I'm not biting this one. Even with $200 trade-in, the A54 still costs $250. I'm spoiled with the S22 and S23 that I got from Fi for much less than that after trading refurb i11's. (Samsung gives $201 TIV for an i11 on this deal).

Thanks. We don't have Verizon service or if we do it's only 4G LTE. It doesn't look like they have Verizon 5G in all of WV. I have to use a GSM sim until they make the full Verizon switchover then I guess I'll have to find another carrier. Is using my existing GSM sim or buying a new tracfone GSM sim going to be an issue? I think I remember talk about discontinuing GSM sims when I activated the A51 last year.

    Zip code 26241: https://www.verizon.com/coverage-map/

Another thing that makes me think this a decent deal is Tracfone wants $220 for the older A53 5G and Amazon is still asking $450 for the unlocked A53 5G.

Edit: I can't even use my zip code to get a sim on tracfone's site. When I bought the A51 I had to use another zip code just to activate the phone and this caused an issue once I unlocked the phone and wanted to use a new GSM sim so I could have service.

I see they have GSM sims on ebay but many mention t-mobile. I tried to get my neighbors phone working with tello and she didn't have any service in this building.

Yeah, you are right. The deal is lukewarm. With the A11 trade-in and cashback, my calculations came to $236 net - not what I expecting. I was actually hoping to buy and keep it for a trade-in deal for a flagship Samsung device later this year or early next year. I already have 2 new S23U (from FI deals) waiting to be sold. I don't need any mid-range device to use as a daily driver or spare phone.

If you have a TracFone-AT&T SIM currently in use, you can just plug that SIM into the A54 5G, no problem. You do not need a new SIM.

I am not sure what APN will be set by the A54 for a TF-AT&T SIM. If data does not seem to work afterwards, you may need to set an APN manually. You can look up ERESELLER settings. That should work.

By the way, an interesting thing about the A54 is that it is Samsung's first A-Series phone to include eSIM (but don't try to use that with TracFone).

Thanks. I think I've had to manually set the APN before. I forget to turn my mobile data on which almost requires manual settings or waiting to see if it happens on its own.

I had to lookup esim. I think it also has two sim slots but I'll have an sd card in one of those slots. I will also miss the headphone jack so I'll have get get a usb C to 3.5 adapter. I have one from my moto z2 force that may work.

The OP can take screenshots of what the APN settings are on his current GSM phone and type them in on the A54.

Hpham, I have been thinking this same thing, but I have been liking my S20 FE 5G over my A51.

Then again, I was stilling thinking about it to get a phone with C-Band 5G yet.
