I tried to sign up with eSIM last night. Got a weird app error. Tried again tonight and this time got almost to the end but got another error that said my phone number and IMEI are not paired. I tried again, same error. Closed the app and reopened it and now I’m signed into my account but there’s no active service and no way for me to try activating again. I ordered a physical SIM but it doesn’t instill much confidence after the initial activation issues.

Okay. Tried one more time and this time it activated. I found a way back to the activation screen. Service shows 5G but is not active yet, so hopefully that goes through soon. I installed the MobileX APN for iOS and it’s got a Verizon carrier bundle.

I activated service on an iPhone 12 mini that I wasn’t using.

Has it been working ok? I'm considering trying out mobileX. How difficult was it to set up the APN stuff?

Well, crapped out today after ~10 days - so much for the 30 days free trial still advertised on their website. The app does say 10 days so not a total surprise - but sure looks like nobody is paying attention there. The app says "Custom pricing offer expired" and "Updated data forecast required" (with no way to redo the data forecast?) - WTH does that mean? It looks like I can still pay for service at the same price. I do wonder how long I have before the SIM expires - I've got a couple weeks left on a Tello SIM I'd like to use up first...

BTW no emails from them past when they shipped the SIM to me - poor communications at best ...

I got the App. It won't even tell me how much the plans are unless I give them a credit card number.

Customer service responded quickly and said you can't edit your 'access' (plan) mid cycle, but they did enable talk and text for me which was really nice. Apparently I selected talk and text to be added and it showed it in the app, but it wasn't actually added. I checked my credit card and they charged me for just data, despite the app showing the higher price with talk and text. They said they set it up correctly for my next cycle but I can't see any details now and get an error saying I can't change my access/plan so we'll see.

I haven't really used it but I'll try to make it a point to use it. I have service on a 12 mini I wasn't using; after several errors and days trying to get activated, it's been fine. They give you a link to download the APN and that was seamless. Shows 5G like it should. Data and talk/text work fine. The personal hotspot menu shows up after activation too; I have hotspot on my iPad line as well as a dedicated hotspot, but it's always nice to have access to hotspot on Verizon in a pinch. You also get to choose a # from a few they display during activation which is a nice touch.

Side note: I have to pick up the physical SIM they sent me, it's at my PO Box. When I was having issues with the eSIM, I opted to have a free SIM sent to me. I guess I'll stash that and if the service works out well, it'll be a nice backup service.

I'm considering MobileX. From the comments here, they do seem a bit haphazard. In the rollout phase, what would be redeeming is if they had knowledgeable and helpful (looking at you, Tracfone) phone support. Any experiences with their CSR's?

I think the way it works is after the 10 days, they will suggest a custom plan based on your usage. If you select that plan or another custom plan, the first 30 days on that plan will be free. But if you opt for a 'fake unlimited' plan, there is no free month.

have you checked if MMS (not iMessage with another iPhone) works ?

if not it is not so much a MobileX issue as an apple one, MMS does not usually(perhaps never) works with side loaded APN's and they do not make it easy to have a carrier bundle. i believe it takes either a carrier bundle deal with Apple, an MVNO that 'just works' with the APN of the parent carrier or a SIM that is completely not recognized by the iPhone(would not include any T-Mobile, Verizon or ATT MVNO's) in which case the ability to manually set the entire APN including MMS is available in settings.

Supposedly the quickest way to get help is via the xpertcare tab in the app.

It was pretty seamless for me to move my iPhone to mobileX, including a number port.

Yes, the first month does appear to be free - I should have pumped up the data for that first month LOL.

BTW I "paid" 4 buck for 1GB data only - but texting seems to still work?
