I thought the battery was starting to decline on my 2019 vintage LG whose battery had a 2018 date. The replacement I got in early 2022 was identical to the original and had a 2021 date, but it didn't last as long as the original battery, and still doesn't.
Earlier, you said that if not for wear and tear, "electronics could be used literally forever and not replaced." That's not really true. Mechanical things like buttons and switches can wear out. Batteries can wear out. But really, none of this stuff wears out before the phone becomes functionally obsolete. I would still be using my LG Ultimate 2 with Android 4.4 from 2015, but by 2019 Google's own apps didn't even work well on it any more. And my Rebel 4 from 2019 still works well now, but with 16GB storage, it can't hold very many apps. Both of these phones were charged to 100% every day and never had any battery problems or any other problems.
Believe me, I understand. I would still be watching CRT TV's if I could. But my TV's didn't wear out because I used them every day. They became obsolete.
