    LG Fiesta battery

One of my LG Fiestas has a battery problem. The battery is swelling so that the back of the cover is curved.

Should I continue using the phone or should I consider it a hazard?

I had the problem with a LG Stylo 3 and its battery was removable so I removed it and tossed it.

I believe the Fiesta has an unremovable battery and so I can't just replace the battery.

It's a real darn shame because I have three Fiestas and they are my workhorses because of their long battery life.

Any opinions or information on this? Thank you.

I wouldn't continue to use it. I checked some of my old phones last year and many had developed swelling and I got rid of them. Didn't want to chance a fire.
I still have a couple LG Fiestas from the Simple Mobile 9.99 sale back in 2018, also picked up a Huawei Sensa for $20. The Sensa was really impressive.
There's a replacement battery kit on Amazon if you want to give it a try:

Sounds like a feisty battery instead. I would not attempt to use that phone unless you replace the battery. Never forget the example of the older Samsung Galaxy phone (S6, I think) that had more than a couple of batteries exploding or catching fire. I think Apple had a similar issue a few years ago with a specific model of iPhone.
    Just another day in paradise.....

Thank you for your answers, Ancius and Serial Port. I was afraid that was going to be it, the possibility of detonation. I've had it on for saving files to it but I haven't been using it for word processing since I noticed the problem.

Really will miss that phone because it lasts so long under use.

I'm thinking if it doesn't get charged, it shouldn't explode if it's not in a hot place. It's the act of charging that heats & swells the battery is my guess.

So, after it runs down to 20% or so I guess I will do a factory reset to protect my personal ID passwords etcetera. Sure hate destroying it. But I guess if I do, it's less likely to cause a fire when it goes in the trash.

The option would be to try to replace the battery but since its not ordinarily removable (as with my Stylus 3) might as well retire it and rotate another phone into its place.

Liked the tap to wake on the Fiesta. Much harder to wake by pressing the power button on my Motos. But I like the narrow form factor of my motos.

Don't toss it to regular trash. places like Target, BB, Home Depot will accept phone/batteries.
LGs were the best. Hated to see them close up their phone business. Still using my LG Aristo 4 and Phoenix 2 and 4.

A bulging battery is under severe pressure caused by a highly flammable gas that could begin venting at any time. Do you have a working fire extinguisher to put out a fire?

No extinguisher but the management in my apartment complex probably has one. Thank you for letting me know that because I wasn't sure in what way it might manifest although it did occur to me that it might catch fire in an explosive way.

Most Motos have settings in the Moto app for screen functions, often using the Peek Display settings. It varies by phone model, and may not exactly match the tutorials and manual. I never use the power button to wake up the display.

Same here, I really miss LG phones and their double-tap feature!

WheelieBoot, on my Moto E (2020), I never have to use the physical button to wake the phone - I just pick up the phone and rock it gently till the clock shows up, then swipe up. That same rocking motion works to wake up my Moto E6 and Moto E5 too.

And I set the screen lock timer to a pretty short duration, so I don't need to use the physical button to lock the screen either.

Hope these will work for you too!

Thank you sillyette. I use the peek display but I've never swiped up from it. I usually touch the power button to get the screen to light up and then I swipe.

I like the narrow form factor of the motos I have but I will always miss the LG's tap to wake and their nice screens.

I realize this is an old thread but I have two LG fiestas and I just noticed that the second one's battery is starting to swell, but not as badly as the first one that I put out of commission. The curvature is enough to be noticed with the case on.

Given that the batteries are stated as non-removable and that probably means it requires soldering and/or de-soldering to replace the battery, as well as taking chances with aftermarket batteries that may not be any good, sadly I'm going to have to retire the phone.

Three of my main workhorse phones are now retired because of battery issues. The Stylo 3 and the two Fiesta LTEs. The Fiestas are terrific phones, they were my daily Wi-Fi drivers, had *gr8* battery life. I don't know if the Stylo 4 & 5 are comparable but I don't think they have the battery life.

I still have my LG Fiesta 2 workhorse. I removed its case to inspect it for curvature using a ruler. Tiny bit of a curve but not as much as the other.

I thought of buying a battery on eBay for the Stylo that says LG but the dates are old (2018, older) and even if they were genuine, just have been sitting on a shelf and not good. Reviews say the life isn't anywhere near the OEM.

I even looked at Stylo 3's with cracked screens but they're from waste recyclers and unlikely the battery will be any good.

As much as I hate letting a good phone go for a bad battery, it would be more economical to buy some good quality refurbs like the Moto G Play and Stylus, anything around $50 max. TF has the Stylus refurb for that and a Play for $40 on its website.

I have a Moto e6 that has removable battery, but I prefer a larger screen for writing. It's one of my backup work devices along with my LG Solo.

My two e5 phones have too many flukes now to use those for daily drivers, just mp3 players. If I put MicroSD cards in those they show as corrupted.

I have two Moto E phones that I may use but their battery life isn't nearly as good as the Fiestas. But, their screens are bigger and I hate scrolling to read-write a document.

Those Fiestas and the Stylo saved SO much wear & tear on my active service phones. Gonna grieve those LGs.

"Wear & tear"?? Huh?? What wear and tear does a cell phone see? Unless you're miner or a farmer or working on an oil rig where your phone is exposed to the elements. Just curious.

Any use of a phone ages it. It may not have any significant moving Parts aside from the power button or the volume buttons, but charging the phone over and over again because it's used for hours each day will eventually drain down the battery life.

Internal electronic parts eventually fail with use and may even fail if the device isn't used.

If that wasn't the case, electronics could be used literally forever and not replaced. Electronic scrap haulers make a few bucks on the leftovers, often for the gold or the silver.

Rechargeable battery life does depend on how many charges. Seem to remember that Li-ion types are rated up to 500 full charges. Not sure how partial charging affects that. Age also affects charging ability, even if not used. You are not going to get a fresh OEM battery for older phones.
