The $300/year plan is available only "when you activate a new line".

I received this text about an hour and a half ago.
Hi, it's AT&T. Your data has renewed and 16GB was added to your account. Your payment due on 07/01/2023 will be $300 for 12 months.
From my account on their website:
Details
Your 12-Month Plan will now have double the data -- 16 GB of high-speed plan data included each month. You don't need to do a thing, your plan's included data will increase automatically at your next monthly plan renewal. Enjoy more games, movies, sports or whatever your passion is -- you deserve it! We appreciate you being an AT&T Prepaid customer.

ATT puills a solid for its existing customers!
Can you see Verizon doing that?
Actually, yes. Several years ago, my wife, both sons and I were on pure, post-paid Verizon. At the time, I wanted to switch because I had heard so many people bragging that Verizon was so much better than AT&T in coverage. It wasn't cheap, though. After taxes and fees, I was paying $171 for 4 liners. The data was limited to 8GB per line.
I was pleasantly surprised a few months into this when I received a text that all lines were being increased to 16GM per line.
(Later, when I moved us to what was then known as Total Wireless, it seems like we shared a pool of data, maybe 25 GB for four of us.)
From my perspective, it seems like Unlimited Talk and Text is almost a given on the vast majortiy of the plans these days. What really seems to differentiate them is the amount of data you get. More data equals more money.
I just paid my $300 annual renewal, which was followed by getting notice of the 16Gb data upgrade, followed by my actual monthly renewal. I just looked at my account on the web and see that it shows me with 23.2Gb available (16Gb + 7.2Gb rollover). As someone who rarely even hits 2Gb data usage, this bonus is nice but overkill in my case.![]()
My wife's line finally refreshed:
Plan Data (includes 6 GB Rollover Data℠)
22 GB of 22 GB Remaining
Obviously, she probably doesn't really need the full 16GB/30 days data allowance, but for only $21.38/30 days TOTAL by buying discounted refill cards, it's worth it, and she primarily uses it for the included Canada and Mexico roaming. The 100% hotspot usage of plan data might eventually come in handy, too.
I respectfully disagree. I think it's outrageous that ATT does not allow its existing customers who are on some other prepaid plan to simply switch directly to the $300/year prepaid plan. Only new customers can choose the $300/year plan. By having that sort of restriction for certain plans, ATT is treating its existing customers (many of whom have been loyal ATT customers for many years) like dirt -- which is not exactly the four-letter word that I really want to use.
