I'm using a Walmart FP SIM in my Tracfone-unlocked Samsung A51 since July. It has VoLTE and LTE Data. It shows these APNs, with the top one selected by default. This phone was previously used with Tracfone/Verizon and FreeUP AT&T. So these T-mobile APNs were loaded when the FP SIM was activated.

My apn is set to wholesale.

How do I get it to 4G?
FWIW: I have a Samsung S7 (G930A) so I took my Red Pocked T-mobile SIM with the Freedompop free plan and put it in my S7. I get 4G LTE. It trashed the Tracfone APN and loaded a bunch of others with default selected as T-mobile. When I put my Tracfone SIM (AT&T) back in the S7 I had to re-enter my Tracfone APN. Maybe the Walmart SIM works a little different.

You don't need band 71. Band 12 is the required/critical band for T-Mobile which the Samsung S7 has. To get VoLTE, you must be running on the correct firmware, either XAA or TMB. You also need the correct APN to get VoLTE working.

Settings >> About phone >> Software Information >> Service Provider SW Ver.

Where did you buy the phone from? What is the firmware version and CSC code? Should be something like SAOMC_SM-G975U_OYN_???_?? XXX/YYY/ZZZ
    thx.
    in that link you said:
My old testing phone isn't T-Mobile VoLTE capable, so no calls -> "Call Ended".

i have a samsung s7 and popped in a boost mobile prepaid ($30 for 3 months, unlimited data) sim today.
    I can't make/receive phone calls. I get 'call ended.'
(I can make/receive calls via Google voice.)

so i guess my s7 can't do volte? (no biggie since the carrier phone # is throw away because gv)

don't see Service Provider SW Ver under Software Information.
    Nothing under Software Information expands.
I don't see firmware version or CSC code.

My s7 model is sm-g930V (Verizon). Got it free from someone I know.

Might be different then for a Walmart FP SIM. I'm using a Red Pocket GSMT SIM, so I only have these two APNs preloaded, fast.t-mobile.com and ims.

Also, this test phone isn't VoLTE capable, so no signal, I turned off data because I ran out of data. My phone decided to use 80+ MB of mobile data to update Google Play Services/Store when I first connected. Waiting for next month reset and TCL Flip 2 unlock to test VoLTE calls.

I guess the S7 is an older version that doesn't have the CSC codes in the firmware. Can you please double check? Can you post the Build number so I can verify?

No, your phone is VoLTE capable, but unfortunately as you have stated, you have the Verizon model, which can only do VoLTE on the Verizon network. The S7 doesn't seem to have the auto carrier profile firmware switch, so you'll need to manually flash the XAA (factory unlocked) firmware or carrier specific firmware in order to gain VoLTE support every time you switch carrier/network.

    https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G930U

XAA = factory unlocked (all carriers)
    ATT = AT&T carrier version
    TMB = T-Mobile carrier version

    Baseband version g930vvrsbctc1

To update firmware, do i need to root the phone? (i prefer not doing that since it seems complicated.)

Great... Thanks for the info. No you don't need root. Actually rooting is very difficult for USA Samsung phones. You're flashing stock firmware.

Make a backup of all your data, texts, calls, and stuff because it'll all be wiped. Also suggest you pull out the microSD card just in case.

Download this, and keep it as a backup. It's the exact same firmware you're running now:

    https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga...SBCTC1/329889/

    Grab Odin3 v3.14.1_3B_PatcheD.zip
    https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/p...-13-1.3762572/

Also need the Samsung USB drivers.
    https://developer.samsung.com/android-usb-driver

    Grab this XAA firmware G930UUESBCTA3:

    https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G930U/XAA/G930UUESBCTA3

Unzip it, go into download mode, connect the USB cable and try flashing it with Odin according to the XDA guide.

Try testing both the FreedomPop and Boost sim. Remember to check/set the correct APNs when switching. If VoLTE doesn't work, you might need to try a newer firmware or one of the carrier specific ones. Be aware, once you flash a newer firmware, you can't go back to the original/older one.

    APN

On 06-22-2022, I seem to remember my Nord N200 defaulted to the fast.t-mobile.com APN (and worked). But I entered wholesale based on what I found on the web. My LG phones received text messages to install Plinton/wholesale.
    https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...3#post17220623

On 08-14-2022, my ZTE Blade Spark defaulted to the fast.t-mobile.com APN (and worked).
    https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...2#post17225282

On 09-10-2022, I tried my LG Phoenix 2 again, and received Plinton/wholesale via text messages again.
    https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...2#post17228332

So it seems either fast.t-mobile.com or wholesale is known to work. FreedomPop has not specified on a webpage what the GSMT APN should be. The main difference seems to be that fast.t-mobile.com comes from the original firmware (for example my ZTE Blade Spark has Android security patch level: August 1, 2018), while Plinton/wholesale is what's being sent via text.

Slepy has a SIM card directly from Red Pocket:
    https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...4#post17227404

Unlike FreedomPop, Red Pocket does have a webpage specifying the GSMT APN. My guess is that the MNC should actually be 260 based on the SIM card Slepy received, but it seems wholesale is usually used for T-Mobile MVNOs.
    https://help.redpocket.com/setup-you...-gsmt-sim-card
https://tello.com/help_center#q_1205 (What APN settings are needed with Tello?)

By the way, one advantage of buying a SIM card directly from Red Pocket is that the ICCID starts with 8901260. I suspect my Nord N200 is likely to work with a 260 SIM card without unlocking, while the phone must be unlocked to use a 240 SIM card (directly from Walmart or likely Red Pocket GSMT from eBay).

    S7 U Firmware

fstuff's S7 does not work because the firmware is only enabling Verizon frequency bands. Fortunately, the S7 has the same hardware for all carriers. The U firmware will enable the correct bands based on the SIM card.

I looked into this for an S7 edge in 2019, and found that on a Saturday, I was able to download the XAA firmware through samfrew.com in a reasonable amount of time even by selecting "Slow speed" (without paying, without registration). The page for the S7 is:
    https://samfrew.com/model/SM-G930U/

However, I never ended up getting the S7 edge to actually try it out. The notes I saved (for an S7 edge, in case fstuff needs more information beyond what Slepy provided):

    Slepy + andyk88,

    Thanks!

I'll probably do the firmware upgrade in Nov when my current Boost Mobile plan expires and i move to my newer phone.
(Boost Mobile doesn't work with my newer phone for some reason and got tired of spending hrs at phone support)

    VoLTE issue...

Protip: Get a cheap, semi-current, unlocked iPhone 6s or newer, preferably Xr/SE 2020 or newer, something with an eSIM. I know a lot of people don't like Apple/iPhones. I'm personally not a fan, but iPhones are the simplest solution to this VoLTE problem. It works on all carriers and is VoLTE certified. At least use it for troubleshooting purposes when you're trying to figure out if the issue is with the SIM or the phone.

fstuff, let's shine some light on your Boost Mobile service.

When Sprint was taken over by T-Mobile, most of the Sprint customers and traffic were too. But later it was heard that Boost was unhappy and made a subsequent deal to move some or all of their customers to AT&T. Which of course would necessitate different SIMs and/or a device that could handle AT&T service bands.

Are all your ducks in a row regarding these changes? I never followed Boost all that much so am not fully informed, but it seems potentially complicated depending on how you may have responded to the changes.

Is your underlying carrier T-Mobile or AT&T?

Trust no one, Mr. Mulder. In the VoLTE era, assume nothing, deny everything. Even brand new flagship phones might have some weird VoLTE firmware bugs.

The only phone I trust to be VoLTE compatible/certified for all networks are the newer iPhones running minimum iOS 15.2 / Carrier Settings 49.1. That's when the new BTN (Boost Transformed Network AT&T) was added to the iPhone Carrier Profile. This is why I recommend an iPhone for troubleshooting.

I would think he's running on BTN (AT&T) where all the new 1 month/90 days deals are (my.boostmobile.com). Only a few of the yearly deals are on the Boost Expanded Network (T-Mobile). fstuff stated earlier he can't get calls on the Galaxy S7, but I guess data is working? Data should also work fine on the Android 10 phone if the correct APN is set and not IMEI blocked. Just because it's Android 10, does not mean it's VoLTE capable for all networks. Most carrier locked phones are usually VoLTE certified for the original network, but data should still work if it has the correct bands.

Would help if you listed the first 6-digits of the SIM ICCID numbers and the exact model number of the Android 10 phone.

My concern was that, if on AT&T, whether the infamous whitelist would have to be considered with regard to the phone used. Maybe the "BTN" service has its own allowances since that's kind of a special setup to begin with.

on my s7, i cant make/receive calls via the native phone dialer app but i dont usually care because i use GV.
i only care when gv says 'connection unstable' and cant make a call.
then i'm forced to make a call using the service provider phone #. (not a big deal if i dont call)

my android 10 phone is a motorola One Action.
i put in the same APN as the s7 but it doesnt connect to boost's network. 0 network bars and a X.
boost's network doesnt reconfigure my boost acct with One Action's imei.
and their phone support tried to force the imei onto my acct and didnt work.

when i put the same sim in the s7, my boost acct automatically changed imei to the s7's.

Alright... New month! It renewed automatically. Checked my credit card. No charge for the month. My data balance reset, so I can mess around/testing some more. Made sure I updated my phone over WiFi so it doesn't eat unnecessary mobile data.

Did some poking around in the Network Selection and saw my phone can see the Red Pocket (T-Mobile) 2G network as well as the 4G LTE. 3G is dead, RIP.

Sony phone is not VoLTE capable on AT&T and T-Mobile, but using LTE data only works fine. Used about 27MB just to check email using browser. Made a one minute call with Google Voice using cellular data.

Final test was to make a call. It successfully dropped down to 2G to connect and make the call. Call quality was pretty bad (static/dropouts), but happy it can connect. Attached screenshots below. You can see the Signal Status icon go from LTE -> nothing during the call, and the signal level to one bar.
