Was trying to port out from Truphone, and ran into issue "number does not belong to Truphone", after some diggings, found out that the carrier for this number is actually Onvoy (by using carrier lookup tool) instead of Truphone, does anyone have same experience, how did it work out? TIA.
I had reach out to Truphone consumer support, will update if there's any progress.

I haven’t ported out yet, but when I ported a number in, they sent me a PAPER form that I had to fill out and return.
I don’t think I’ve ever NOT contact CS for the company I’m porting away from, so I’m not sure why you’re surprised by that. I think it would be a bigger porting issue if it came up as “landline”.
Having said that, since it’s a world sim, depending on your network setup, it can display whatever carrier you’re connected to. Sometimes, I have to go in and turn off “automatic” to get Truphone to appear, otherwise it will show whatever ATT/Tmo tower/service it decides to connect.

Things went smoother than expected, Truphone support told me to use Onvoy as carrier name, for the rest, such as account number, pin, and billing address would be the same as what they told me before.
I re-submit the port request and it went through without any further issue.
Couple of questions about this, I was planning to ride it out to the bitter end, but there are other services that I can use that support the needed calling these days...
So, when you requested a refund, did you also port the number out, or did you just let the number go. If you ported out, which order did you do things?
TIA!
I let the # go.

T-Mobile Gold Rewards $10yr exp 12.25.23
FreedomPop (AT&T) Target $4.99 once 100 TTD a month each 29th
Likewise. Was too unreliable and was just an emergency flip phone for a family member. Put them on H2O payasyougo for a year then recently switched it to FreedomPop Target 100/100/100 AT&T offer.

Had my Sim out of a phone for a little while, tested in a new Google pixel 6a and still working, received a call and text message.
Truphone lives!

I used my Truphone SIM on a trip to France a few weeks ago and found it worked quite reliably. The smartphone I was using for Truphone died during the trip, so I had to move the SIM to a 3G dumbphone, where it worked impeccably well, roaming on Orange.
I was pleasantly surprised to find when I got back to the US that the SIM and dumbphone are working perfectly on T-Mobile 3G.
This contrasts with my Piranha SIM, which was useless in France. It did not receive incoming calls, outbound calling was unreliable, calls to US were cut off after one minute, repeated calls to a working phone on SFR never completed. At least this performance was superior to Piranha in the US, where it does not work at all.
You're lucky you still have 3g in your area. I can't seem to get the sim to work in my area for calls now. Texts still work okay, but I need more than texting when it comes to sim options. I'm working on porting this week, because I still want to keep the number if I can get porting to work.
in most areas T-Mobile has shut down 3G but 2G still lives on for calls and texts in areas blanketed by PCS spectrum
Many carriers in Europe have also shut down or in in the process of shutting down 3G while keeping 2G active as a fall back for calls and texts for those roaming or without VoLTE capabilities. 2G is very inexpensive to operate compared to 3G and 4G radio equipment can often handle 2G connections within the 'Guard bands' between the 4G channels without needing any additional spectrum.
As I recall, I'd moved the TruPhone SIM to a smart phone in the US (last year?) because it was no longer working on a 3G (quad band) phone. I have found 3G works more often than not in big cities and also in rural areas, where I occasionally see 2G. (I know all this will deteriorate with time.) I don't use Truphone for data, so I'm happy to be able to use it on a dumb phone again.
The 3G system still seems robust in France. 4G and 5G phone service are promoted, but not with the same aggressiveness as in the U.S. There's no French carrier with a phone whitelist, like AT&T in the US, and there's not the same hoopla about the alleged superiority of 5G. A quick search finds that Orange (the former France Telecom) won't shut down 3G until 2028.
I've tried using my Truphone sim in a smartphone as well as a flip phone.
In both cases, texts work, calls don't. I have concluded that there's no 2G or 3G service in my area.
I successfully ported from Truphone to FreedomPop Target GSMA Sim. I had contacted Truphone earlier asking about refund/porting. I used the account and pin provided, selected "other" as the previous carrier. And then I contacted Truphone help to let them know I had started the port. It took about an hour, but went through without a problem.
Now to work on the refund. For those who did refund: did you supply your detailed banking information (routing/account numbers) over email? I'm slightly concerned about sending unsecured emails with that kind of info.
Just completed a call on Truphone. Still works!
