IME so far no, if it is detected as an acceptable device it just works, you can see the device listing in your ATT.com account page change eventually.

However many of the devices I'm experimenting with just get denied access after a few days, which is why I'm now experimenting with a full fledged PC same as / close to the one ATT itself offers on their "upgrade device" page.

Can anyone recommend a router to use with this plan? I've looked into GL.iNet MUDI (EC25, EP06) and Nighthawk M1. The GL.iNet ones support more bands, but the M1 comes with a gigabit Ethernet port.

Regarding the GL.iNet MUDI, is EC25 a better option since it supports B71?

The CAT4 version works great with TMO.

The other one is faster for CAT-6 but dunno about the whitelist issue, might need to "repair" the IMEI.

Both are LTE only, buying these days I would go 5G.

Note Mudi has an adapter dongle included, don't recall USB only but Ethernet dongles are cheap

Thank you! Yeah, I was thinking about modifying the IMEI . Just found Puli AX (GL-XE3000) and Spitz AX (GL-X3000). Both are quite pricey though.

If you want the best I’d go with the Invisagig from Wireless Haven or the Chester Cheetah from Chester Tech. Both are speedy (and spendy) but excellent devices. If you want to go cheap a used Netgear Nighthawk mr1100 or mr5100. I’d avoid the mr6xxx series. The software is getting auto updated and locks out some features. You can get around it if you’re pretty techy.
