Holiday special, add a new line and get 10,000 bonus points (up from 7000 points).

For 10k, it might be worth buying a BYOP SIM for $1 and putting a $20 90 day card on it, seems like a cheap way to get 4 months of 2GB unlimited.
It appears the new line must be on a device which isn't associated with your account before activation, and either added to your account during activation or within 30 days of activation.
I recently activated a refurb which I had previously put in my account without activating (and it had no activation history from before it became a refurb). I didn't get the 7000 points. But when I activated a new eBay phone which had not been associated with my account before, I did get the 7000 points.
You can try sillyette's Tracfone rewards referral code RRJA-C67E at rewards.tracfone.com or in the Tracfone App. It's a bottom tier referral though.

The phone I didn't get the 7000 for, I bought it as a refurb from shop.tracfone.com last winter, and added it to my account to view the transaction history. Activated it in September, forgetting it was already in my account. I realized the problem when I tried to make a new account for it and it asked me for the phone's PIN.
The phone I did get the 7000 for, it was a eBay 1500/365 phone. I activated it with by 'activate with a new number' from my account dashboard.
I activated an eBay bundle phone this morning and saw the 10000 points get added. I logged in the "my account" app and activated from there.
So I have to activate a new line (new number) in my account to get the 10,000 points?
Just adding a device alone won't give me the 10000 points, is that correct?
TIA.
Edited to add - After the points are in my account, can I use them for my existing line, or can I only use them on the new line? Thanks.
I'm so glad I checked back in with this thread to find that redemptions now work on the iOS app. Funny old Tracfone. Anyway, the frustration is that each phone often gets a different option for available airtime (smartphone vs PAYGO). You can trick the system online, by looking and choosing a plan before entering a phone number. But when redeeming, you're stuck with whatever is given. This also goes for the add-ons and I have yet to find a phone that lets me buy the $50 year with points.
As for the redemption date on the website, I also remembered reading 'after November.' Just activated a new line tonight, and it now says 'after December.' So it goes.
I did the same. I'm shocked it went smoothly and I have 10,060 points pending already. I had planned to activate the eBay bundle for a friend for Xmas as an extra line so this was great timing for me AND her. $30 for 1 year of service with min/text/data and 10K points for me! I'll just transfer the line out of my account after the points post in 60 days.
TracFone website says limit 4 add a lines for this promo just FYI.
Castrol EDGE 0W-20 is my drug of choice.
Primary: iPhone 14 Pro Max (T-Mobile & Verizon); Pixel 6a (AT&T)
Mobile Broadband: Franklin T10 LTE hotspot (5GB for $8.50) / iPad mini 6 5G (unlimited 5G data)
Activating the new phone with an existing line of service doesn't do much, as far as I know. (transferring your tracfone number to a new phone)
Once the points are available in your account, probably after 60 days, you can use them to buy airtime for any line in the account, or you can buy airtime for a friend, using the friend's tracfone phone number or IMEI.
In the iOS app, I seem to be limited to one transaction per phone per login. After you buy airtime with points, buying airtime for that phone isn't an option for the rest of my session.
I mysteriously received 7000 points in September when changing from ATT > Verizon within TF - this was NOT a new line.
Alas, they disappeared on day 60 ! I thought perhaps the 7000 points would go from Pending to Available miraculously - but not to be.
I called CS and eventually talked to someone who researched the matter, ask some questions, and determined the the above to be the case - not a legitimate New Line of service ( which I did not expect or ask for )........You may receive Rewards points in Pending that are never "Available" due to a mistake by TF rewards.
This piggybacks on what taxmantoo just stated.
I'm not sure it's a "mistake," rather just the rule that lines have to be active for two months -- 60 days -- to gain rewards. At the 60th day the system checks to see if the line is still active and then awards the points.
But yes, points don't vest until the transaction meets redemption criteria.
Thanks, taxmantoo.
Here's a complicated question that I hope someone will have an answer to - After I get the 10,000 points for activating a new line, do I have to keep the old line active forever in order to keep the points?
Background to my question - I have an existing account with a phone bundle tied to it that expires next month. I will be activating a new phone bundle to get the 10,000 points. Those points will be available only in January, but my existing phone expires in December. Will that be a problem?
Thank you for any help anyone can provide!
Spin the wheel and Scratch off games are working. Got 5 points on each. Woo hoo! /S
