    'Checking Balance' questions

    1. My newish PAYG flip phone doesn't announce the balance or minutes like my other phones. Can't I change that?

    2. It used to be I could dial #737 for a balance check, but is sending a (5 cent) text the only way now, short of logging into the account or getting the phone the announce the balance before connecting a call?

    Thanks.

I called PagePlus and they said that the balance/minutes announcement before connecting a call is a thing of the past.

Like the CSR said; thing of the past, unless it's a still active 3G phone. 3Gs still do it. Went away with the new 4G's.
Just occasional check your balance on the website if you don't want the charge.

I always just use the website since I'm up to my ears in computers and devices most of the time.

There is a Page Plus app available that likely includes a balance check function, although that would obviously require data access to use (cellular or Wi-Fi). This of course is for smartphones.

    Text BAL to 724-3 ???

    After I add a PIN, I get a text message from 724-3:

Card xxxxxxxxxx has been applied. Text BAL for usage information.

I respond with BAL and receive the following:

    Balance: $xxx.xx
    Bal Exp: yyyy-mm-dd

Oh, good. I would hope it is free, although pageplusdirect.com says it can costs 5 cents. But if pageplus itself says it's free then I'll assume it is.
