Rogers 1900MHz 3G shutdown, and possible 2G shutdown extension?

Just stumbled upon this IoT networks FAQ page, and noticed that Rogers is stating that 1900MHz 3G Network won't be supported after March 31st, 2021:

My IoT devices are dual-band and operate on both the 3G 850MHz and 3G 1900MHz frequency bands. What action do I need to take?

No action is necessary. Your device will continue to operate on the 3G 850MHz network. Only the 3G 1900 MHz network will no longer be supported after March 31, 2021.
Is the IoT network different from the typical cellular network offered by Rogers? Or would this shutdown affect UMTS/HSPA devices that support 1900 MHz PCS frequency?

The 2G decommission date also seems to be extended since the page states:

All customers with 2G- only IoT devices are requested to migrate their devices prior to December 31, 2021, to avoid service disruptions. After that date 2G IoT devices will no longer be supported.
If the IoT network is indeed different compared to the regular cellular network, then it still doesn't make sense that the regular GSM/Edge/GPRS network will be decommissioned this coming January whereas the IoT 2G network will be decommissioned by the end of next year.

    What do you guys think?

For 2G and 3G, IoT devices and regular cellular traffic use the same network. For LTE, it's a bit different.

I would agree with you the timelines appear to be inconsistent. The Mobile Syrup article is a bit old, and from my experience, decommissioning timelines always get extended, so I would go with end of 2021.

They would have to build out a lot in NW Ontario. Much of TBaytel (Rogers) is still 3G only.
    AT&T... your world, throttled.
