Verizon's alternative to layoffs: Retraining 20,000 workers

    https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/07/14/b...erg/index.html

Verizon hasn't laid off any of its 135,000 employees during the pandemic. Instead, the company has retrained around 20,000 workers for new careers.

Absolutely. They got rid of experience specialists and operations specialist and literally around 2 months later they hired new ppl as retail support staff just to merge two positions into one. They are also liars and crooked.

Verizon's alternative to layoffs: Retraining 20,000 workers

Where’s most of the cuts historically coming from? The wired side?

I know Verizon had to shuffle a bit for a few years after paying $130 Billion to buy out Vodafone’s shares of VZW (Cellco Partnership). That will take decades and decades to pay down if ever at all.

I know when they closed the Irvine, CA. call center a lot of local people were affected forcing them to find new employment in a very expensive area to live.

I believe the article is specifically talking about its strategy around cutting costs during the pandemic.

The recent layoffs (over past 5. Years ) i'm describing were wireless including retail and managment

And folks that took the packages were managment and landline . I'm not aware of retail folks getting the package in the article above

The description of "Citizen Verizon" is so vague and grandiose that I have to seriously question Verizon's leadership. So instead of spending money on building out their network, they are going to do what exactly?
In no way I am suggesting that I know best how they should run their company, but I'm losing hope that Verizon will be upgrading their network in rural areas anytime soon.

I wish they would expand fios in existing markets , I'm tired of suffering from POS cable broadband
