“The Internet wasn’t meant to be metered in bits and bytes, so it’s insane that wireless companies are still making you buy it this way. The rate plan is dead — it’s a fossil from a time when wireless was metered by every call or text.” John Legere 1/5/2017

Don’t see any changes in NYC area on the map. In NYC coverage seems to be rather light as per the map as La Guardia airport I would have thought would have been a priority has a big 5G gap on the left side and I know AT&T has done fiber optics work in that region. I presume 5G cells may not have been activated or installed yet due to airport construction. Hopefully this spot and others in the NYC metro that are important dense areas show 5G soon. Will check the map later this summer as Crown Castle is doing permit work so AT&T may have more small cells online by then.

I see a lot of 5G in the Northeast, especially around New York (it is the light blue). Seems widespread in some areas (might be low-band). Are they using Band 5? If so, how much of it (what bandwidth)?

Yes, its running on 850 mhz, on a 5 mhz channel.

5G+ is out in select parts of NYC. The coverage map doesn’t differentiate between 5G and 5G+ and I don’t have a device that would tell me if it is 5G or 5G+.

I wonder if AT&T passport plans will roam on 5G services when it is out in other countries. I hate sim swapping and trying to get a native sim for each country especially if there is a short stay.

Well that’s great for nyc (where I used to live) but here in Raleigh NC there is NO 5g whatsoever when At&t announced back in late 2018/early 2019 that Raleigh would have 5g+ in some parts of the city. Yes it was for businesses then BUT on March 9, 2020 it announced it would open to consumers as well! I had the Ultra but what’s the point? I thought by this time 5g+ would be in a lot of more areas here but instead there’s no sign that Raleigh NC ever had 5G+ my apologies for my rant!!
