    5G coming to Tracfone!

Two 5G phones appeared on the Tracfone tutorial pages. Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Any idea what carrier they assign for these? T-Mobile would be preferable having much more usable 5G, especially when the Sprint spectrum gets added in. ST also offers the S20+. The standard S20 does not have mm-wave 5G, but the other two do.

None of these show up on the Walmart Straight Talk list.

These are not released on Tracfone yet. Not sure how they are going to market them.

I posted this on the other forum. I see these phones when I use a T-Mobile ZIP code, but when I put in my ZIP code which is mainly Verizon, I do not see these phones. It has been like this for a few weeks now.

My ZIP code has all 4 carriers, so you see everything. My guess is they will come with T-Mobile SIMs.

If I wanted a 5G phone (by later this year all phones over say $300 will be 5G) I would wait for the Qualcomm X60 modem chip which won't be out till early 2021. This chip will have carrier aggregation across all bands from what I understand.

I don't think the cheaper phones coming later will have this kind of sophistication. It's also not known what the carriers are going to allow on MVNO service. They still restrict some features on LTE. The worst one is Verizon, who has done nothing except almost worthless mm-wave 5G in some cities. AT&T seems to have some mid-band, but still restricted to urban areas. T-Mobile has the widest 5G coverage using low-band, and will soon be employing the mid-band they got from Sprint. No time to buy yet.

I hardly use any data. Makes no difference to me whether it's 3G, 4G, or 5G.

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I don't know why they can't just leave well-enough alone instead of getting needlessly complicated. The vast majority of consumers couldn't care less about blazing fast data or whatever, or want to finance this.

Look how people are going back to old-fashioned TV antennas because cable got ridiculous.

It could happen. As Lisme mentioned above, LOTS of people have canceled cable/satellite and have now gone back to OTA TV antennas in the last several years!
