Now, what exactly does this allow/give (during a normal season, past years experience, of course!). And what is not included that a baseball fan would like?

It allows you to watch the televised broadcasts of all of the baseball games with the exception of games broadcast in your local market as well as nationally televised games. Blackout rules are here:

It's really good for someone who follows a team located in another city as most of the games will be shown via the app.

Now I wonder how easy it is to defeat the "blackout" censorship using a VPN, proxy, etc.

It's interesting to be able to watch a game from either team's prospective.

I've always been a bit shocked that MLB TV (when not free) is like $120 a seaon, and for someone paying that kind of money they still apply the regional blackouts...
This season, I'm also wondering how much of a baseball season one may get for it.
But... what the heck, free is free.

The price would just be higher - it's to protect the regional sports network broadcasts so that you watch those on TV when available. Verizon charges me something like $6 month additional now . . . presumably that would get added to the price (if not more) for each city.
