    Friend received an email from Tracfone addressing the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) global pandemic:

    I have been getting emails from various companies regarding COVID-19.

    Some phone/streaming service providers responded to increased usage due to people being isolated by increasing or removing cap on service. TF's response is just lip service.

    My wife just got a text, appearing to be from Tracfone, which contained a shortened link. I did not open it just in case it was a malware scam. Instead, I went directly to the Tracfone website. There is a brief message on the main page, and a dark blue link to a COVID-19 statement in the dark blue stripe just below, on the left. As of 11:00 AM Pacific time, it mentioned some sort of financial assistance plan for people who need it. And that some plans allow users to create Wi-Fi hotspots.

    It is harder I assume for MVNOs to provide extra freebees unless the underlying carrier does the same. ATT or Verizon, for instance, can temporarily bump up limits and supply it at their internal marginal costs. Their main cost is the forgone opportunity to upsell you. And in an environment like that, that isn't easy when many people need to cut back.

    But if TF has to pay by the megabyte, they would start to hemorrhage. And I'm assuming they are having a lot of other unexpected costs due to this.
    iPhone 11 is my current primary phone. But I have more phones than lines. Back to only Prepaid with the changes in the economy.

    The Car Smart plan seems like a pretty good value. Unfortunately, it requires the $99.99 KonnectONE - Car Smart (K6500TL) from https://shop.tracfone.com/shop/en/tr...-connect-tf-en and it appears that it will only work while in a car. I wonder if there are workarounds for extra smart people?

    I can confirm that my friends Safelink account is now getting unlimited minutes and unlimited texts plus an additional 5Gb data w/normal 3GB for total of 8GB data.
