They are working on the issue and said to check back in 24 hours. They did mention that it seems to have something to do with the new service they're getting to roll out and the SIM card is conflicting with the app.

Silly question, but have you tried uninstalling the app and trying to use the service without it? If you're really on the new non-VoIP version of the service, is it possible the app is interfering with the native dialer and messaging apps?

Gives you something to try until they get back to you, anyway...

Yes the rep actually recommended trying to call without the app. When I did that a recording from AT&t said the call wasn't authorized.

The silly part is I lost my chat connection when I uninstalled the app. It took a few tries to get reconnected but Christine was awesome

Sorry to hear about your trouble with the service, but know that you're blazing a new trail for all of us! My current 1-year FP SIM expires next month, and I was really hoping RP was going to start activating new accounts with real cell service before I activate my next one. Your post tells us it might look like that's starting.

It's all good. My Red Pocket AT&T line doesn't expire till Thursday. Hopefully will be good to go by then. . . . .

Update---FreedomPop still working on a resolution. Chat has been great with virtually no wait time.

I'm still thinking it has something to do with the sim card since the "Service Upgrade" message still appears when trying to place a call or send a text. Google Voice works fine for now, but would like the app working in case I get low on data.

I am still on AT&T free plan. It appears FreedomPop at least for the free plan no longer give data credit for using their app to make call for a while now. In my case, as a result, there is no difference in term of mobile data usage between using FreedomPop app versus Google Hangouts.

Yes, now that voice works it does appear that calls use data on the 1 gb plan as well. I've also discovered that incoming calls rarely ring the phone, so Google Voice seems the way to go.
