    First tech support experience

Maybe not what you're expecting -- it's all good. After signing up at a local store yesterday including porting my number from AT&T, by this morning I had data but no phone/text. So I called the 800 number and after just a couple of voice prompts they put me through to tech support and the call was answered immediately by a young woman who was very well trained and found the problem right away: the idiot at the store -- who was trying to set some sort of sign-up speed record -- had assigned a $40 "mobile data" plan instead of the $40 prepaid phone/data plan! She was able to fix this up and within a few minutes my phone functions were working.

This is why I'd rather do it online myself, but in this case I was getting too close to my AT&T renewal date and wanted the switch done right away. I don't think they'll see me again in that store though...

Did you call the number for Ultra Mobile or T-Mobile?

    T-Mobile AFAIK 800-937-8997

And FWIW, after I responded negatively on a SMS-based survey, the manager of the store called me back and apologized for their mistake. So I feel much better about their service in general right now.
