    RedPocket and Verizon

Looking to switch my AT&T plan to Verizon on my current RedPocket plan.

I see I can purchase a new card on RP's website but I have a question: They have the Verizon card labelled as CDMA. Verizon is going to GSM right? So is this info outdated?

If I want to go to Verizon LTE on Redpocket, which card would I order? Could I just use my AT&T SIM card? Customer support has been NO support thus far.

    Thanks!!!!

Verizon is not going to GSM, so you will need a CDMA sim card. Also, do you know for sure if your phone will work on the Verizon network?

I know the bands Verizon uses for LTE and my phone has those bands. What else would I need to know?

What phone do you have? The phone needs to have VoLTE.

they are not going gsm. they and the rest of the cell industry are going lte only. you will still need a phone that talks on Verizon bands 2 and 13 and optionally 4 and 5

so in the future you won't need the cdma mobile radio but no one will be able to step down to 3g or 1xx.

none of this has happened yet though. they keep pushing it back.

to answer your question-you still need to get a Verizon specific sim card from red pocket. not a tracfone one or an at&T GSM one.

when you buy the plan from red pocket they will send you the correct sim card for the service you choose. it will still say cdma

Okay, thank you all. I was a bit confused (obviously). I think I see it clearly now. I'll get the Verizon CDMA card from RP then to try it out. I do love that RP will let you try another network while on your current plan.

You will NOT be able to activate your Umidigi F1 on RP Vzw because it is not a Vzw allowed phone.

However, if you have a Vzw allowed, VoLTE capable phone, you can activate the SIM card in that phone, and then move the SIM card to your F1, after which, based on ShredFred's previous testing/reporting, everything should work properly.

You're welcome. But any old Vzw VoLTE compatible phone's IMEI should work fine for activating the new Vzw SIM card.

Look for some of ShredFred's previous posts on the subject for more insight/details.

Boz1; So even though RP says they have a Verizon SIM it still requires an "approved" phone? There's no way RP can make it right with Verizon?

I will read up on this issue more, thanks!

No. It's a Vzw requirement. MVNOs have no control over that.

Legacy CDMA providers, like Vzw and Sprint, have strict phone whitelists for activation.

Fortunately, unless/until Vzw puts a stop to it, you're still able to switch an already active Vzw SIM card into a phone such as the F1, which apparently physically meets the requirements to be successfully used on the Vzw network, but Umidigi didn't pay the fees to have it tested and added to the Vzw allowed phone list.

There is no way that an average person could do the same to get a non-allowed phone on the Sprint network.

Okay so it looks like I'd want to buy a Verizon phone on ebay, cheap, and go from there? Do you have any recommendations? I am really motivated to get on the Verizon network. Thanks!
