Claim: VZW to abolish all Grandfathered Unlimited Data Plans (GUDP) in 2020

There is a reddit user claiming VZW is going to can all GUDP in 2020 per a "management meeting" that will retire all Nationwide & Freedom Plans and features.

Pretty bold claim, hasn't provided proof, any other VZW employees had this meeting?

If the rumor is true, affected users should receive a 30 day advanced warning prior to any such change. We will have to see what happens. Grandfathered plans/features are not guaranteed to last forever.

Some people seem to think it means exactly that. If this become official look out for all the "class action lawsuit anyone?" posts. A far as I'm concerned this is something they should have done YEARS ago.

I wonder if this change will come at the same time an update to the current unlimited plans will happen? Because it's needed

For the record how many people can still be on it? Supposedly like 4 years ago Verizon said 1% were still on it.

Probably a good percentage of HOFO members using Verizon and cry foul anytime such a change occurs.

I guarantee that a class action lawsuit would not work in a case like this. I am not a lawyer and I don't play one on television.

I was on the GUDP for many years. If I had stayed on it, the cost would be as much or more as the new unlimited plans. I don't think it's a cost issue for Verizon. Sounds like they might just be doing a little housekeeping.

I switched to the 5 gb for $55 plan a couple of years ago, hope they don't do away with that, may have to go to the darkside.

I'd hope so, i'd prefer if they gave us something we could transition to rather than just GTFO but I think there has still been a plan change too recently for another already.

Dates quickly grabbed from news article posts and are likely off by a few days.
Feb 12, 2017 feb plan launch
Aug 22, 2017 go launch ~6 months later
June 18, 2018 above launch ~10 months later
Aug 2, 2019 start launch ~13 months later

We're currently ~5 months from the launch of the current unlimited plan lineup so i'd imagine they will wait at least another month.
I'm going to take a wild guess at june for the next plan overhaul.

Allowing deprioritization on data only devices would easily do that, they did for a while on prepaid but they never have on postpaid.

Personally i'll be annoyed if they do get rid of them all because while I have other cellular options verizon is by far the fastest at my home ~40Mbps vs ~8Mbps via AT&T.

Would be a $130/mo savings until I got something else lined out tho.

Is the FebUDP still available?

I have gUDP and likely will be affected by deprioritization during peak hours.

Anyone know off hand all the stats for deprioritization on each unlimited plan?
As in, number of Gigabytes in the billing cycle? Also, hotspot limits and then throttled speeds after hitting hotspot limit?

fUDP isn't wroth it unless you have 7 or more lines. You're better off going with Do More or Play More

In many areas you could be deprioritized all the time. I doubt you see anything like that until 5G is more widely deployed and more 5G devices are out there. As well as CBRS and LAA deployment and devices

Depends on what you want to use it for, if you don't need hotspot most of the current unlimited plans are pretty nice.
If you need hotspot visible's $40/mo unlimited plan includes unlimited deprioritized 5Mbps hotspot. It's the only off the shelf option i'm aware of at the moment.
Best practical option is probably taking over someone's $65/mo prepaid unlimited jetpack plan (deprioritized) but that's harder to find but easy to transfer.

Yes but unless you have a lot of lines it's not a better deal than the current lineup.

Start 0GB, No hotspot
fudp 22GB, 15GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
beyond 22GB, 15GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
Play more 25GB, 15GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
Do more 50GB, 15GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
Above 75GB, 20GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
Get more 75GB, 30GB hotspot then throttled to 600Kbps
gUDP ∞GB, ∞GB hotspot

I think the numbers are right and i'm pretty sure I didn't forget any but IDK that should be all of the postpaid unlimited plans.
