The only way I know of is to use a Google Voice #.

But maybe someone else will have another suggestion.

As far as the cellular carrier is concerned, never heard of such a feature. Would have to use an external application IMHO.
Don't make me turn this car around.....

I researched this a while back and concluded that it can't be done. My wife has a seldom-used business number with voice calls forwarded to her personal cell phone, but I couldn't figure out a way to forward texts. I ended up buying an old Sprint Samsung Galaxy S on eBay and porting her business number to it using the RedPocket $30/year Sprint plan available on eBay.
My smartphone is a lot smarter than I am.

I think the OP wants the messages automatically forwarded to a different phone # and doesn't want to have to manually do it from the phone.

OK, that is a different thing. What I see talks about diverting, which may be a different process than forwarding. It may also be carrier dependent...tricky stuff. I see that iPhones have settings for this, but may only be with iMessage and not SMS. Wonder if RCS Chat has this feature?

Used an app called sms forward but requires the phone to be on all the time.

Sent from my S3_Pro Umidigi using HoFo mobile app

Yes, there are Android apps that will do this. Not available on iOS. But it's different than call forwarding. Call forwarding is done by the carrier. Text forwarding is done by the actual phone. I haven't tried this in a while, and I heard that Google was going to not allow these apps anymore.

The other way, as someone else pointed out, is to use Google Voice.

It isn't done manually, it's done automatically by an app. But the phone has to be on and have a signal. It works fine. I used SMSForward https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...pps.smsforward

Very different than the carrier doing call forwarding.

How do these sms forward apps work? Text gets sent back to some server which resends it to the new number from a spoofed number?

Boz's idea of gv is more functional but involves porting the number to gv. Then, any device with an internet connection can sync the messages. Not just received message, but sent one as well so you're getting both sides of the conversation. One time $20 fee to port in. Account can coexist on a device with another google account too.

It's really useful to port your main mobile number to Google Voice, especially when it comes to SMS. When you're using a foreign prepaid SIM card when traveling you still get all your texts.

^^Preaching to the choir. Been a gv user since 2013. GV has its advantages but also challenges, esp on prepaid where basic things like disabling CCF is a nightmare.
