Well just finished another 90 minute call.

Here is the result on my balance after checking.

My balance is still $1.94 when I do #999# and 'Your wireless account is not active. Please refill to resume service.'
    When I do #225#.

Apparently the account is still working although my next date to deduct $3 was June 11th.

I have a legacy GR line that I keep as a backup. Few days ago I tried calling VM to retrieve and clean the inbox and sending and receiving few SMS text messages. No charge on any of those either as of today apparently. Not that I use this line too much anyway.

We never know when this will go away.
I was coming back to the thread to update my experience with not charging for minutes.

As of a few minutes ago they are still not deducting minutes.

So if you actually talk on your phone this would be a great time to get in any long winded conversations.

Had another 90 minute call just now.
Same balance showing before and after the call.

I think the party might be over. I have seen reductions in my account over the previous months, maybe like 20 or 30 cents per week. But I receive many more text messages than that and I have an occasional phone conversation too.

But starting yesterday 6/25 it seems to be deducting per usual rates. So I just sent two texts and made a 2 minute call and immediately the texts and calls were deducted from the balance.

The only thing it doesn't look like it's charging for are received MMS. I just sent myself two MMS and neither were charged.

An outgoing MMS was charged the 25 cents however.

I just sent two SMS and made a 1 minute call. $0.33 was deducted ($.10 per text and $.13 for the call).

Yes it looks like the party is over.
I just tried calling out and got a recording saying that your wireless carrier doesn't allow calls to that number. I tried a few different numbers.

Then I tried calling to my $3 a month line from a different phone and the call could not connect.

Oh well, I did get great value from that line.

Now I can toss that SIM card in the archives of dead SIM cards.

It was good while it lasted.

Thanks for posting. I just checked my $3/mo line and I have 15 minutes left. I think they also had reduced my balance by about $2, maybe for texts? I thought the texts would first come out of my 30 allotment. Can't complain though - I got a lot of free talking & texting the last two months.

Glad I checked here, and thanks for the running account from Snowy and others. I made one call a little over a week ago while driving to Chicago and wasn't charged, but que sera, sera, as Doris Day used to sing.

I am on the $2 a day plan, but I thought you had to top up every ninety days? Am I not on a legacy plan?

Also is the $100 top up for a year no longer valid?

If you want I'm curious how you got to a $489 balance.

If you are on the $100 Legacy Gold Rewards plan you can keep it but you will have to refill it with a minimum of $10 a year to keep it.

They don't offer that plan any more but if you have it they have Grandfathered the plan.

With the $2 a day plan I'm sorry but I don't know the answer to your question about it.

I think the answer (partially anyway) is that you have to have achieved Gold Rewards status at some point with those types of plans. It just being an old "Legacy" grandfathered plan is not enough. The "switch on" would've been purchase and application of a $100 refill at some point. And there's no more changing around with those plans anymore either. Purchasing and applying a $100 refill now (for some years, in fact) won't get that status. It will, however, still get you minutes at $0.10 each when applied to an existing Gold Rewards account. Gold Rewards also means (meant) that your balance was good for a year. Thus why a few of us still have them and get away with putting just $10 per year on them, even though that amount doesn't get the best per minute cost.
