Can (if so, how?) I have all incoming calls go to voicemail

If traveling overseas and don't want the $0.25/minute charges, I've been advised to forward all calls to voicemail during the trip. Can I do that?

What others (non-T-Mobile) do is tell callers to use an internet service (FaceTime or WhatsApp) and if that isn't available to them, to leave me a text message or email.

How do I best accomplish this with TMo?

(Can I check voice mail via a data connection?)

    Thanks!

Easy. Your phone has forwarding settings. Set "Forward All Calls" to +18056377249

I opted to forward to a Google Voice number instead. This gave me the option to either answer the call using data while overseas, or let it go to voicemail and then receive a transcription of the voicemail sent to me as email (along with a link to download the audio over data) or retrieve the voicemail in the Google Voice app.

My techy son and I use Google Voice; my wife says it is too confusing. Whatever works! Thanks for the reminder.

I don't think texts will forward to voicemail or another number. I may be wrong but they are either never delivered or arrive when forwarding is cancelled.

Interesting ... DRNewcomb, you seem to have a better handle on things than most, what are the facts here?

The GSM standard has provisions for forwarding texts but AFAIK it has never been implemented anywhere. Texts are delivered as usual when roaming. Since most T-Mobile plans have free incoming and outgoing texts when roaming in most countries, this is a good thing. Some people may have problems sending texts and it may be related to not entering numbers in the fully qualified "plus format" (e.g. +12223334444) Some phones do not auto-correct numbers lacking the plus and country code.
