    Unlock Policy

I'm new to Tracfone so please excuse the ignorance. I've read the Tracfone unlock policy regarding a years usage but it's a bit confusing.

Can I buy one of the Tracfone phone and one-month service offerings and then buy one of the offerings on eBay for xxx/xxx/xxx (minutes/texts/data) good for a year to qualify to have the phone unlocked at the end of the 13 months (1 month with the phone and 12 months with second offering? I guess the question boils down to - does the 12 months of service for unlocking require a monthly plan used at least 12 months or does the xxx/xxx/xxx plan over 12 months qualify?

    Thanks.

If you buy a yearly plan on ebay, do you have to wait 12 month to request the unlock, or does it qualify you immediately?

Pretty sure you have to wait. Need to complete 12 months of continuous service.

I sent a message to them on eBay asking if the yearly bundles qualify for unlocking at the end of a year. They said - no.

"We are sorry for the confusion. However, please be advised that the
bundled airtime plan does not qualify the device to be unlocked. If you
need further details or clarifications about our Unlocking Policy, you
    may contact our Unlocking Department"

If you ask different TF reps "Does the bundled air time qualify for unlocking ?", you likely will get different answers. Some say "Yes", some say "No". But there were reports in this forum from people who got their TF phones unlocked after using the bundled 1-year that came with the phones.

As I understand it, sometime during the 12 months, you have to add at least some purchased airtime. You can't just coast along on inherited airtime. That's how I interpret it anyway. The official policy is never stated in clear language. I don't know if coasting includes starting on day one with a bundle, i.e. if it is considered inherited (free) or purchased.

I think one of the members who got his/her phone unlocked added a time card after the bundled 1-year ran out, mainly to stay with TF service. Then that person submitted an unlock request and it was approved.

Well, you need to complete 12 full months and the phone has to be active to unlock.

So yes, you need extra days to keep it active during the unlock process.

TF doesn't give credit for time purchased only time past. Some companies count the purchase the same as time past (so pay for 6 months and unlock immediately)

I never found the written policy confusing, just legal jargon.
