2019-2020 List of universal, unlocked phones for AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint

Been waiting for this $1449.99 compact makeup mirror replacement. Unfortunately, I'm short a couple of stimulus checks.

    **Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G (Model SM-F707U) - LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66, 71

For less than 1/10th the price of the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, you can still own a piece of Samsung Galaxy:

    **Samsung Galaxy A11 (Model SM-A115U) - LTE Bands 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 8, 12, 13, 17, 20, 25, 26, 28, 38, 39, 40, 41, 66, 71

Are all Verizon postpaid phones still sold unlocked? Wouldn't a Verizon Galaxy S9 or 10 work on any US carrier????

Am I safe to assume that the new Verizon Galaxy S9+ I just purchased at Walmart is completely unlocked if it's working with my At&t sim????

Yes. Just may not fully support all features like VoLTE. If this list was started over, it probably would have to be limited to phones that support VoLTE on the carriers since the carriers are beginning to tighten eligibility, at least for activation, to phones that work with VoLTE on their network.
iPhone 11 is my current primary phone. But I have more phones than lines. Back to only Prepaid with the changes in the economy.

It doesn't have VoLTE on AT&T or TMo. "Completely unlocked" means nothing anymore. VoLTE will be required on all carriers in a few months, and that means carrier certification (IMEI validation, aka whitelist) will be needed.

Samsung GS series can be converted to carrier-specific variants by loading carrier-specific firmware, thereby enabling carrier-specific features like VoLTE/VoWiFi/VVM/etc. It can then be used by swapping in an existing activated SIM, but it can't be used to activate a new acct, as IMEI needs to be whitelisted for each carrier, even TMo, and IMEI doesn't change when you change firmware. Activation check will fail.

This list is now a disservice, since it misleads people into buying phones that they think are "universal," but will actually need replacement when AT&T VoLTE becomes a requirement.

Going by Cricket's 3G sunset FAQ, which likely applies to all AT&T-network providers, VoLTE will be required for activation a year ahead of 3G sunset, or in roughly 7 months.

I would still love to get a dual-SIM phone. Will dual-SIM phones be able to fully work on more than one carrier in the future?

As of now, newer iPhone and Pixel phones that support eSIM will, if one of the providers supports eSIM.

Based on recent posts in Reddit and here, you have good chance that VoLTE will work. But it is not safe to assume. Without VoLTE your phone will be useless on 02/2020 on AT&T.

Same phone works fine on TMO and VZW.

Well, I decided to start updating my new Verizon S9+ with my At&t Prepaid sim installed. Since this was a brand new Verizon S9+ it was still on Android 8.0. After a few updates I got a message saying "new sim detected" and then it proceeded to install everything At&t including the At&t splash screen on reboot. All the Verizon Apps and bloat were deleted. Seems like my S9+ was automatically changed to an At&t version!!!! I'm sure I still have a ton of updates to install on my way to Android 10 so I'm hoping VoltE will be working when all is said and done.

Disable wi-fi and make a phone call. If you still see LTE sign it means VoLTE is working

No... If it normally says lte and drops to 4g when in call then it's not using volte.

*#*#4636#*#*, device information then the 3 tops top right. IMS service status? If it doesn't say registered then you'll probably have to play the same game with getting an iphone or att volte compatible phone's imei on your account for these features to be enabled. You could also try calling customer service to see if they can enable them on your account.
