T-Mobile Is Giving People A Free Hotspot To Test Drive Its Network

Mine arrived yesterday. I finally installed the SOM card this afternoon and tried it. The device itself seems very cheap. The download speed was about 40 Mbps.

I look forward to the T-Mobile Home Internet being offered in ZIP 55068. I also need to check and see if 600 Mhz is on the tower(s) near me.

I don’t have a T-mobile account (used to more than 2 years ago) but my husband has a postpaid account. We have the same address, of course, but not the same phone numbers and email addresses.

I was able to get the offer.

I got the t-mobile hotspot today. The coverage is not great in the rural area were I live. But in the spots that I get coverage I get 20 mpbs down and about 5 mpbs up. I look forward to checking the speeds in the city and compare to AT&T.

The one I ordered for my non-T-Mo subscribing mother was delivered to her house today. She had no idea what it was- she's an 89 year-old Luddite with no cell phone or computer.

However, my kids and I will be visiting in two weeks, and T-Mo service is very weak at her house (it only works outdoors or in one upstairs bedroom window), so it's a struggle for us to get connected when we visit her.

So, my plan is to put the hotspot in the bedroom window that has (comparatively) reliable T-Mo service, and hopefully we'll all be able to connect via the hotspot's WiFi from the rest of the house. (Usually when we visit it's during the summer, and put up with being "unplugged" as part of the vacation. This time, however, it's during the school year, so we'll need a more reliable connection for the kids to be able to do homework.)

Got mine in the mail yesterday strangely T-mobile sent me 2 packages each with a Test Drive Kit included. Guess I've got 60 gigs to play with.

Anyone thrown the SIM in an unlocked phone before booting up the hotspot the first time ? Got into the web interface 192.168.0.1 the most info I can gather is -dB readings.

Speeds not that impressive overall. At&t beats Tzmobile everytime. Looking forward to going out and exploring with it.

Spec says 48 hours standby and 5 hours actual usage. This seems right in my experience so far.

Can I assume this hotspot will get a better signal than a tmobile cell phone?

I get nothing at my house until I drive 4 miles out into town before it picks up. I'm glad Tmobile has this though, now I know

From the looks of this thread, this is only validating people NOT having T-Mobile service. Not sure this is the publicity they need. The fact that so many people here claim there is no coverage or very slow speeds makes me wonder how good band 71 really is. Is there lower spectrum than 600 that T-Mobile can invest in that would travel miles and miles????

Yeh I don't expect this to work in my home area. I get no signal from att or vz on phones. I do have an att hot spot that I added external antenna to that works great for my home internet. And even if tmobile's hot spot works at home they don't have an unlimited hot spot for 20 bucks like att.
