ATT says it will block Robo calls

AT&T said Tuesday it will start to automatically block robocalls and alert customers of suspected spam calls for free.

The company already offers a “Call Protect” service, but customers have to manually opt-in. Now AT&T customers will be automatically enrolled, the company announced.

New customers will have the service automatically and existing customers will have it added to their accounts “over the coming months."

Actually Apple’s IOS 13, due out in September, is doing a great job in beta testing. It sends all calls not in contact list straight to voicemail. I haven’t had a call get through in two weeks. The two together should end all the harassment.

Haven't I had that opportunity for some time now with my Android pieces? "Block unknown callers"?

I am sure you have. Nobody can accuse the new Apple of being innovative.

So... What's the difference from a robo call and a spam call? Robo call will be blocked and spam calls will be alerted... Apparently you still need the call protect$4 per month, to automatically send spam to voice mail.

This sounds like att marketing double speak.

And, of course, prepaid customers don't get squat.

I'm a brand new AT&T customer for a week now (with a brand new number, no less). I've signed up for Call Protect.

And so far, I'm getting about 4 robocalls per day. None of them is identified as anything but a general call with number-only caller ID.

    Good job, AT&T.

Meanwhile, my 6.5 year old T-Mobile number is getting maybe 4 per week. Many days, it gets none. And when I look in the T-Mobile equivalent to the Call Protect app, I see a bunch of numbers blocked.

Basically, it will cost $4 to have these calls automatically blocked. It's free otherwise and you will be prompted on what to do with these calls instead,

I down loaded the ATT Call Protect app. When I tried to activate it, it said I need HD Voice and my phone is not eligible. I have a BYOD Moto E4 Plus.
My phone is HD Voice capable but ATT will not activate a non ATT branded phone.

They will start activating volte on non att phones by the end of the year. But, prepaid is still out of luck for call protect.

Have you paid AT&T the $4 per month cost to automatically block these robocalls? That's the catch here.

Is AT&T supposed to mark these calls when they come through?

Here's what they say about the feature:

Simply add the feature through your myAT&T account or the AT&T Call Protect app and get these benefits:

Automatic fraud blocking which helps reduce the chances that a customer will become the victim of a phone fraud or scam by stopping these types of calls in the network before they even reach the phone.

Suspected spam warnings on the incoming call screen which let customers choose whether or not to answer calls that originate from a suspected spam source.4 (Must be in HD Voice coverage area).
I'm supposed to get a warning that a call is spam, but I haven't seen that so far.

I've seen it for a while. At least a year on my note 9. It displays at&t alert: telemarketer.
