    Big 3s New Approach

Anyone think that Freedom will announce some sort of response to Rogers new plans; afterall if I didnt have Promo Everywhere 50, with 35% off and was paying $60 for 10GB Home, I would def go $75 for national coverage with Rogers.

    Any thoughts?

I think Freedom needs to address this.

    For the reason you gave.

For 25% more, you get much, much more coverage...

If it weren't for the promo 50 with the 35%, I'd be staring long and hard at the big 3...

    Looking at what?

Just last year lots of foolish people left good plans for the $60 / 10GB options
Now many of them are either getting rate increases (Rogers / Bell) or removed Tab eligibility (Koodo)
    Koodo $40 Canada Wide + 8GB + 1000 Intl LD
    Public $120 Province Wide + 12GB - $6 Autopay - $12 Loyalty - $45 Refer = $19 per Month
    Freedom $35 ($37-BTS) North America Wide + 8GB + 1GB Roaming

Freedom is still $20/month cheaper on average.

    Rogers $75x24=1800

    Freedom $50x12(BYOD discount) + $60x12 = 1320

    Difference $480 or $20/month.

If you go the hardware subsidy route and pick a Premium tab with Rogers(which seems to give the largest subsidy) vs the Hardware subsidy you get with Freedom with the $60 plan. You wind up with Freedom being about $500 cheaper over the 24 months as well.

The $60 plan comes with Canada wide roaming as well so coverage is less of an issue.

How much cheaper does Freedom need to be?

It doesn't need to go cheaper. It needs to offer the same price with better real nationwide coverage.

Or at least proper corridor coverage in the areas they service...

401 from Windsor to Kingston to Ottawa on the 416.

    Hwy 400 North to Barrie.

    Hwy 2 in Alberta.

    Vancouver to Whistler.

    Victoria to Nanaimo...

If they cover these highways so someone can place a Home rated call and hold it for the duration, they'll be able to cover 90 percent of where their subscribers go...

I don't mind roaming when I'm on a little road through the woods, but when I drop the call on a highway that carries over 200k vehicles a day, I get frustrated.

Anyone have any updates on which "select" grandfather plans get the data bonus?

The $40 holiday plan or $50 anywhere plans?

I'm not waiting to find out what Freedom's response is going to be, I am done after a rather nasty exchange with their CSRs over the weekend where I was accused of being "delinquent" for a bill for which they couldn't tell me what it was for as it was "invisible" to their systems; that hasn't even been issued yet (10th July); and is over a month from being due (24th July)! My line was suspended and I was threatened with the account going to a collection agency if I didn't pay it immediately. I'm still extremely confused and at a loss as to why but I'll be damned if I'm going to be held hostage for a bill that doesn't really exist and I will refuse to pay unless they can show me what it is for and they can prove to me that I owe them the money.

Anyhow, ported to Bell this morning as I'm considered an "excellent customer" of theirs already and as I played up shopping them against Rogers and Telus, I was able to get a slightly better deal that included a new device.

Anyhow, goodbye WIND/Freedom, it's been quite the ride over the last 9.5 years. Shame it had to end like this.

    *EDIT*

I meant to mention; once they found out I was porting in from Freedom, negotiations became a whole lot easier! Despite what they say or how much they deny it, these new plans are definitely in direct response to them.

Just from what I was told:

    The $50 8GB plan is considered a 5GB + 3GB bonus data
They claim data bonuses are not stackable so it is not possible
    Too bad

    Now that you mention it.

I remember that... The 5+3 promo.

Back when 8 gigs was a whole bunch...
