    Straight Talk Coverage?

I’m confused, I switched from AT&T to Straight Talk and I kept my same phone I used on AT&T. So I got the AT&T compatible SIM from Straight Talk. Wouldn’t that mean I have the same coverage as AT&T? When I switched I couldn’t receive or make calls in my home, I have to go outside to make a call now. Does this mean Straight Talk is using different towers than AT&T then?

I'm unsure if straight talk has volte or wifi calling or not, which is what you may of had with AT&T the reason why your phone worked in your home.

Or you where roaming which straight talk won't do.

VoLTE & WiFi Calling is a YMMV situation. I know a number of América Movil/ST locked phones have WiFi Calling and VoLTE on AT&T. iPhones tend to have the best success with BOYD support, but it is still hit or miss. I have only read of a few people managing to get one or the other to work on BOYD with Android. It’s not consistent at all.

ST-AT&T does very limited voice roaming (they roamed on Commnet’s GSM/UMTS towers when I used them a few years ago), but for the most part you are correct. It definitely won’t do data roaming.

OP: also note AT&T tends to put network priority for MVNOs below their own postpaid and prepaid services and that can affect your service.
What phone are you using ST with now?

It is hard to know the reason, unless the mode of operation was known on that phone while in direct AT&T service. WiFi calling, roaming, etc. I thought of putting the AT&T SIM back in and reading reception with a signal app, but that may not tell much when out of service.
