Only want to use WiFi calling with Google Voice, not mobile data

Now reading the Settings in the Google Voice app, I assume the title of this thread is not possible. But can someone give me an idea of why Google did it like that?

On my phone plan, I’m metered for data. And occasionally (once or twice a year) I’ll go over at the end of the month and have throttled bandwidth on mobile data. The last thing I want is something else that uses mobile data. Especially when it could just as easily use voice minutes, of which my phone plan provides me an unlimited amount of...

I am using an iPhone if that makes a difference. IPhone 8.

That was discussed in the big thread at https://www.howardforums.com/showthr...h-Google-Voice sometime in the last several months. I can't remember how it came out, but others were also not happy with the way it's set up.

Google makes some good products. Especially their web services are second to none. But sometimes they make some bizarre design decisions.
