Red Pocket - Difference between ATT and TMobile

My children have the old $30/month 100 minutes T-Mobile plan. I was looking at the $240/year Red pocket plan for them (unlimited text/minutes, 5 GB data). Besides coverage, would there be any difference between ATT and T-Mobile? T-Mobile coverage has improved tremendously over the years they've had the plan but I'm wondering if ATT would just be better overall.

Can anyone also tell me how long it took to port in?

    Thanks!

Only difference would be coverage. With T-Mobile you may be stuck with 2G only for calls depending on your area. Like my area doesn’t have 3G do any provider that doesn’t have volte will be a pretty bad experience for calls

Thanks! We'll check the coverage maps but I'm leaning towards ATT.

We use the ATT plan and working out great. On iPhones, you cannot do group texts to Android and cannot send or receive MMS. But fine for our family.

We don't have iphones but no group texts or MMS would be a problem for them. Do you know of any other problems we should look out for? My son wants the T-Mobile side but not sure what my daughter wants.

    I don't understand your statement.

There are NO problems at all using RP AT&T with Android phones.

Correct this issue of no mms and no Sms group texting only applies to iPhones. Androids are ok

Group texts and pictures do work on Android phones when sent to other phones. If you use Red Pocket on an iPhone, it won't do group text or pics to other Android phones. Sounds like you are okay.

Is there an apn setting that will help iPhones make mms or group messages to android phones on it?

Gotcha. Was looking to set up my daughter on the red pocket because of the cheap $60 a year plan. Pretty much all of our family has iPhones so I don’t think it would be a problem but I just wanted to see if there was a way to be able to ensure she could text some friends if they don’t have iPhones.

I have some questions that you can probably help me with. I am on Total Wireless (Verizon MVNO). I want to have something as a secondary phone. If I am traveling and think I might be out of Verizon coverage, I usually bring my AT&T hot-spot. If I bought the Red Pocket T-Mobile plan, would it allow me to make wifi calls through the AT&T hot-spot, then? What about wifi texts? I assume the same thing then?

Sorry - I was thinking if they decided to get iphones. Then they would have to switch plans.
