TF is notifying owners of old CDMA phones

Turk Forums member Landngroove posted this today:

"Got an email from TracFone today: Your phone with number ( XXXXXXXXXX) currently utilizes a network which will no longer be functioning at the end of this year. Fortunately, new networks are already available that will allow you to have even better service!
Since you're a loyal customer, we would like to give you a great discount on a phone that will allow you to start using these new networks now ‑ gaining improved service and avoiding a service interruption when the networks change. By accepting this offer you agree to transfer your service to your new phone. If you do not do so, we reserve the right to provide an automatic transfer. TracFone must be starting the notification process with customers with CDMA Verizon phones. "

Is the "great discount" $5 or $10 off the price of a $200 phone?

No, the discounts are mostly around $30 to $50. But, they seem to be the same prices as the current Mothers Day deals. Typical TF thanks for being a "loyal" customer.

Update...someone on another forum posted screenshots of the phones he was offered and the prices (for an iPhone 6s and a Moto E5) were $50 less than what I was shown. Guess I am not that "loyal".

You could get one of those Refurbed ZTE Z333 or whatever flip phone they are called free with a $15 purchase and free 2 day shipping which seems more of a generous offer than that haha.

Irony here is that TF knows which of it's phone models are not VoLTE capable, and sends the offers to only those owners. Until now, there has been no public admission the VoLTE situation even existed. Enormous effort has been put out by users on the forums to figure this thing out.
They could have published a list of the VoLTE phones a long time ago!

"we reserve the right to provide an automatic transfer"

    What does that mean exactly?

I guess that means if you don't buy a new phone they can pick a cheap (free) phone and transfer your service to it.

Could be. I was thinking that, or they could re-provision the sim ota and consider that a 'transfer'. Who knows...

Re-provision won't work for old non-LTE phones like the very popular L41C U2.

I know... Just saying that they could enable the service, call it a transfer and expect the owner to upgrade the phone. Though I think you are probably right about providing a freebie.

The way I read it, it means that if you accept their offer for a new VoLTE compatible, discounted phone, they can transfer service to the new phone if you don't initiate the switch yourself.

Exactly. If they send you a device at a discount and don't activate in a reasonable time, they will do it for you.

So don't take the deal and sell the phone.

Oh great! I got the message on my old VZW iPhone 4S. I have a spare iPhone 5S but it's an unlocked at&t-based model that doesn't support CDMA but it's LTE-capable (specs HERE) and I want to keep my TF service with the VZW network. I cannot use it (unless I transfer to at&t network), can I?

Owners of old CDMA phones without a TF account won't get the email because TF doesn't have their email address. I wonder if they'll get a text message from TF.

A 5S is CDMA capable, but it's NOT Vzw VoLTE/HD Voice capable.
