So what's the best pure GSM pay-as-you-go alternative to Lyca?

Truphone, runs on at&t, $30 gets you sim and $15 credit that doesn't expire, 9 cents outgoing/free incoming calls.

You'll have to check out how well these match what you're looking for, but here are two to consider:
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/plan/minute $0.05/min or SMS or $0.10/MB; $10/90 days to roll over balance, AT&T
https://www.speedtalkmobile.com/plans $0.04/min or SMS or MB; $30/180 days to roll over balance, T-Mobile
SpeedTalk also has paygo plans WITHOUT rollover $0.02/min or SMS or MB; $5/30 days, T-Mobile

called them last week to get pin and account number to port the number. Call them today again to verify if prepaid is really getting canceled or if they are changing terms. I was told pay as you go is going away. Now need to decide where to move further. It appears that there is no good alternative for those that want to carry over the plan.

    Did you see this post:

Why don't you email them as well and see what response you get. Or call and quote the email to them and ask them to check further.

I think there's a very high chance that the reps you spoke to simply have not been updated on the final plans.

I called because I saw that post. At this point it doesn't matter as I ported my phone number out and I emailed them I would not have enough time to port by the time they reply. It was a good right I would say. Though I would continue to monitor this thread for other pay as you go recommendations. So far I haven't seen anything that would work best for my use case.

See the March 20, 2019 post here. Same words as text.

    https://www.lycamobile.us/en/plan-changes-update/

    "March 20, 2019

    Customer having activate Plan:

When current plan expires, service will be suspended regardless of any account balance. For continuous service, purchase a new plan or enable auto-recharge at Lycamobile.us.

SIM and assigned number expire after 60 days of non-use.(pervious expiry was 90days)"

For those two people that got texts, has it been 60 (or 90) days of non-use?
Damn it. I didn't know they changed to 60 days and now I find out it is going to be possible cancel/charge $1 a month. I just checked 2 weeks ago and balance didn't change other than the usual. Don't see any texts but my phone is usually off in the car till that 2 month call.

We should know by the end of the week if pay-as-you-go will end altogether, as the alert text literally stated, 60-day usage or not.

Trying to find something to replace Lycamobile. Anyone have any experience with FreeUp Mobile and their “free” plan?

Nevermind, it works now. Maybe was just a temporary glitch.

Still working here, too. I checked Lyca's website for that acct and it no longer shows call history but shows I have a balance left.

I plan to switch all of my family's Lyca pay-go accts to FreeUp once our Lyca minutes are used up. From what I've read, nobody reports problems with their free plan ... you just have to go to their site to click to renew it every month.
