Did Rogers fix the New Years cell service problems?

I was just on twitter and noticed nobody complained about Fido or Rogers cell service this year. Every year a problem comes up where people can’t send texts because apparently everybody is sending happy new year messages. I even remember last year Rogers put out a tweet saying there may be a delay in text services. But not a single peep or complaint on Twitter this year.

No problems here in St. John’s. I still managed to pull 40 Mbps down around midnight in a basement apartment in the east end. Not sure how the other carriers held out in this area though. I’m sure none of the networks completely failed but I imagine congestion may have been a thing for a bit on Bell especially down at the fireworks at the lake.

back in the day people sent a lot of SMS messages on new years, but in today's day and age, with many different messaging platforms, people are sending less messages over SMS and more using different protocols such as RCS and even third party apps such as WhatsApp, BBM, FM (Facebook Messenger), InstaGram messenger, Twitter. so there would naturally be less load on the SMSC and more on the public internet
