CDMA SHUT DOWN - what will prepaid do?

When CDMA Is shut down a year from day (wow crazy to think about) what will they do with all the prepaid customer who are stubbornly glued to their prepaid flip phones? I still hear of many older people on that $100/year rate who prob wonít ever be convinced to buy a new phone. Is it just lights out for them? Anyone care to speculateÖ

I agree it would definitely be lights out for them because their phones would no longer work

I mean I guess itís kinda their own fault for not replacing such old equipment. Itís prepaid so itís basically an ďat willĒ service. Verizon isnít obligated to continue providing them service.

It is their fault. If they've been informed that CDMA will be shut down and they willfully do not switch from their old phone to a prepaid LTE phone that does voice over LTE it will be wiped out for them. And I agree that Verizon is not obligated since they are not posted.

Iíd assume theyíll do what AT&T did when they shutdown their EDGE network: send warning texts and offer to upgrade their handsets for free

Iím pretty sure AT&T did upgrades for prepaid. It would make sense for Verizon if they gave a $50 VoLTE flip phone as a free upgrade handset. If they do I assume itíll be this phone: https://www.verizonwireless.com/smar...l-lte-prepaid/

Interesting Iím sure they could afford to give those out to the remaining customers. Keep in mind though those prices for pre-paid equipment you see are subsidized for a new line Of service I believe. Also - the reviews are really bad for that phone.

They should be offered something. But if they willfully refuse then that's their problem.

I agree itís definitely a subsidized price. Their cheapest postpaid VoLTE flip phone starts at $120

The reviews for the phone he linked to are really bad...hopefully they just offer a credit towards a new phone and let people pick their own devices. Lol

Hopefully! I personally recommend the LG Exalt LTE. My grandparents love this phone https://www.verizonwireless.com/basi.../lg-exalt-lte/

Yeah that one is much better. Only issue is the otter cover feels a bit on the cheap/breakable side to me...other then that itís pretty okay for a flip.

It's lights out. We've turned off the other networks, the sun sets on most everything. Entropy will be the death of us all.

I mean, people who insist on keeping an ancient standard will quickly learn holding onto it will get them a device permanently saying 'searching for signal'.

They will have to get LTE flip phones which Verizon has been selling exclusively for 10 months now.
