    Nexus 5X (LGH790) boot loop?

My Nexus 5X (LGH790) has decided to go into bootloop mode. I've managed to do a factory reset and cache reset but this didn't cure anything. Google says the phone's out of warranty and I should talk to LG about repair. GSMarena says that LG has been refunding the price of the phones with this issue. Some YouTube videos say it's because of an incompatibility between the updated boot loader and the hardware and you can install some patches to make it all better. I e-mail LG but have not heard anything back from them.

Does anyone know the whole story of the Nexus 5X boot loop?

LG had a class action law suit for this. They repaired my 2 year old, out of warranty Nexus 5X for free in December 2017 by replacing the motherboard. I just called their customer service department.

I got a quick reply to my query to LG. They issued me an RMA and FedEx label. They'll take a look at it and warranty repair/replace/etc if they determine it's the boot-loop issue. I consider this a decent response to an issue with a phone that's actually several years out of the original warranty. I'll be happy with a repair, replacement or even some decent credit toward a new phone.

The Nexus 5X was repaired and returned at no cost to us. I'm pretty well pleased with the outcome of the situation.
