Or, access type shows up if your account has been migrated to accept volte calls

I caved and called ATT back today. 22 minutes to find out that it will be enabled in my area in Oklahoma January 15th. I assume 2019.
iPhone X is my current primary phone. I have older model iPhones and Moto phones available on other lines. Currently prepaid, though would consider postpaid on right plan.

There was no mention about it. But my SIM is only a year old.

You shouldn't; VoLTE-compatible SIMs have been out a while.

SIM cards definitely should not be a limitation, as far as VoLTE on prepaid goes. Roughly 2 years ago when I switched from prepaid back to postpaid, they were able to do it in store using the same prepaid SIM card. I never even took the sim out of the phone, and when all was said and done I had VoLTE and WiFi calling working on postpaid. That was just your standard prepaid sim out of the kits sold at Best Buy.

SIM shouldn't matter, but on Cricket when they were switching to the AT&T backend off the old proxy servers many people reported getting a new sim card caused the migration to happen faster.

Cricket was migrating from one system to another. The new sim cards were already programmed to the new system.

ATT prepaid sims are identical to post paid sims... They are in the same network... They aren't migrating the same way as cricket was, at least I don't think they are...

Same servers. Just no advanced calling features.

I finally found the screen with the activity logs on it. Anyway, not seeing any VoLTE calls yet in NC, even with a standard AT&T SIM.

Is it supposed to be active at your location in NC yet?

No idea. I still think the first call I made sounded like VoLTE, but subsequent calls are definitely HSPA+.

Maybe the person you called had it, so overall quality better than neither.

Any chance this would work on my Pixel 3 XL? VoLTE + HD Voice worked great on postpaid on AT&T but Cricket didn't support it. My phone has eSIM and I currently have a Verizon prepaid SIM in there right now so I might run to the store this afternoon and activate a $30 prepay line and try. I'll report back with what I find.

Usually att rejects phones that are not att branded. Aside from iPhones, that is...
