Angry This has been a crap show

Rewind to 11/28 $200 BYOD credit.

    1. Order Sim
    2. Sim arrives 12/7
    3. Activate sim with port in
    a. I pre setup my port with all the correct information and check it twice like santa.
    4. Wait a day, still no port in
    a. sign in to chat wait over an hour
    5. Said waiting on response from Cricket
    a. reach out to cricket on twitter they verify status of PO approved, waiting on NSP
    6. Reach out to Fi with this, say wait a couple hours
    7. 24 hours later no port
    8. End of day three still no service
    9. Talk to Fi support today and now they escalate to specialist who will get back to me in 24 hours

So now I must wait another day and still no service. Fi support has been terrible, I will port out as soon as I am ported in.

The worst previously was virgin when I switched for the $1 service for a year deal that took maybe 5 hours.

My sympathies. I've ported numerous times over the years with different MVNOs. Been stuck in porting hell before, not fun. OT but I don't see Fi as being slightly competitive price wise.

I did it for the credit. I can get 4 months or so of service off that credit than just move over to Metro (have band 71 phone).

I ported a number in from Tello, it took 10 minutes yesterday. But I realize that could have gone either way.

My sim took 12 days to reach me from the time they said it was 'shipped' which I think to them means they created a label.

Got an email today saying I have a $90 credit coming before my first bill. The $200 credit isn't supposed to kick in for 30-45 days after activating the phone. I've seen people say they got the same email and that Google said it was a mistake and that they were crediting their account for the $90 and they'd still give the $200 credit. So I emailed them to query the $90 credit - waiting for a reply now and they say it could be 5 days for them to get back to me.

Bad timing on Google's part to have these promos and add qualified phones to the service in December.

When I dealt with phones, Cricket was the worst company to have someone port from. Stores would give out incorrect info all the time and Cricket would sometimes wait until your bill would be considered past due to make you pay them for one more month before they would send your number over. This was all done because they knew people would get frustrated, cancel their port and stay with them. I love that they have AT&T's network, but they have some of the worst customer service I've ever seen.

It sucks that this is happening to you. People need their phones and this mess is ridiculous. With Project Fi now being Google Fi, major changes need to be put into play to keep people. Medium to heavy data users would save money by going to Metro at this point, so they need to give a compelling reason for people to stay and to consider them. In your case, you may need to ask for someone in retention specifically. That may get your case moving along faster.

That is probably going to be my change to Metro. With 10gb for $40 plus unlimited music streaming and a phone that has band 12 and 71 I am sort of in their sweet spot.

For those wondering I have a factory unlocked note 9.

The part that bothers me is I have now the middle man in conversation between carriers. This should not be the case, they should be chatting port team to port team not port team to customer to port team to customer, etc. I'm the guy paying for the service, you want me to make the sandwich to?

Looking at my billing. It shows a free month from Nov 28th (the day I signed up) to December 12 (the day the sim arrived & I activated the phone) which shows my bill would otherwise be $25.63 - WOW a free two weeks billed as a month when I didn't even have service?

I have so far been given the same treatment.

I still do not have service with Fi. I am asking them repeatedly to just cancel the port in and leave me back to cricket. My service works with cricket still and i am using my cricket sim. No faith in this.

    As an update.

Fi never resolved this, they kept telling me they will keep working on it. They finally agreed to cancel the port so my number stayed on cricket. About an hour later I walked in to a MetroPCS store and ported my number over, the whole process took maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. Not sure what Googs issue was but it was too much.

I have wifi calling, volte and lte+, not sure if I have RCS messaging as of yet.

Speeds are greaaaaaat at my house.

Native T-Mobile speeds are around 5 Mbps.

This service isn’t worth even half of how much it is.

Metro gets the Tmobile spam control also even though Tmobile says it is only for postpaid and they don't apparently offer it on their own prepaid.

After I get my credits completely - hopefully $290 worth - I'm going to port my other google voice number into it and run the credits out then look at things. With the taxes just the $20 voice/text is going to run me $25.63 a month. Assuming a gig of data is taxed the same way that's $12.82 for a gig. So using a gig in a month the bill is $38.45 which is steep.

With getting 10gb for $40 plus unlimited music streaming its hard to justify the Fi service. If you are a big international traveler I think it has a use. I hear people pause the service when home than turn back on when they travel. If I had a Fi Pixel and could network switch it might be nice for larger service area.

So far Metro has been great after 24 hours of use. I have full bars most places, I live in a major metropolis downtown also. But my family lives in East Jesus nowhere so we'll see how it works.

I noticed I get a lot of LTE+ right now too which is great, however I have not noticed a speed increase being on plus, but I have noticed all things requiring internet just move faster.

My FI page, under billing now shows my free month started November 12th instead of November 28th. Someone there must have realized they weren't even showing a months service but now they are showing I started service a whole month before I inserted the sim card and 16 days before I signed up online.

Chatted with Google FI support today and couldn't be more pleased.

Really despite the way it looks to me, Google is giving me a free month (and two days) of service - the $25.63. Dec 10-12 + Dec 12 to Jan 12 I can't complain about that.

I'm still eligible for the $200 BYOD service promo credit - that doesn't kick in till the service is active for 30-45 days (if I remember correctly).
    Nothing to complain about there.

The email saying I received a $90 credit was sent in error Google will honor that credit. I saved the entire chat and asked for and received a confirmation number on the additional credit.

So at this point Google is crediting me $315.63.

I don't use much data really so I can likely turn this into 10 months of free service. Very happy.

If they drop the rate on GBs I'll likely stay but a year from now the industry may end up so much cheaper it'll be difficult not to move away at that point.

Glad it worked out for you. I had a few bumps with Fi initially, but it was all worked out.
