AT&T LTE at Chicago Navy Pier

AT&T should do something at navy pier
Once there is a big event at navy pier with huge amounts of people the LTE totally unusable

South side part outside of pier is area having issue
From the front entrance to about where RIva crab house restaurant is at

Maybe should put An LTE-LAA cell tower there
Two great smartphone apps to find cell towers and map actual coverage areas
    1. Cellmapper
    2. OpenSignal
If You're With AT&T Wireless as your Cell Provider, Use the "AT&T Mark The Spot App" to report an issues with your service, like, no connection, slow speeds, no coverage, drop calls...etc

Worked when I was there in April. Not sure if I saw LAA there, but it was in plenty of downtown.

Not sure what they’ve got covering the outside but everything indoors is covered by a DAS. And some small cells nearby there have LAA. Bizarre they’re not working very well, but also not surprised either...

Rarely does any provider have the bandwidth or backhaul for those large summer events. Maybe....5G will help this.

AT&T LTE at Chicago Navy Pier

Just wondering but does AT&T not care as much?
As I remember on two different occasions going to major outdoor concerts (with a good 1-2 thousand people there) and AT&T didn’t work besides for texts. Verizon was only carrier that worked (saw Verizon stands so I assume they had setup a mobile unit there) and sooo many people were mad since the concert was shutdown temporarily due to rain/major wind and lightning. The concert (riot fest) posted on their FB page with status updates, but that was all. I guess no-one had Verizon really as like half of the people gave up and left, and us who remained had no idea what was going on. Finally (and luckily) someone with Verizon phone mentioned out-loud they made an announcement online saying they will reopen ASAP.
I also remember passing another major thing recently and also saw a Verizon stand only.
I often see Verizon stands and mobile units at large events but have yet to see any AT&T or T-Mobile ones yet..
Well... besides in advertisements and what not I have seen AT&T signs at like say the super bowl but that’s about it. Still haven’t ever in person yet.

A place like Navy Pier shouldn’t be having issues like that because it’s a major tourist spot and *should* have the capacity to handle the crowds. I suspect this is more of an AT&T issue as the Chicago team routinely drops the ball on most things in this market as of late.

Most places have those types of issues. The can account for the regular tourist capacity. It’s the spikes due to special events that cause all the problems.

Even with COWs, COLTs and MCTs, it’s unlikely to be able to alleviate those problems.

Service issues during high traffic times at special events is not unique to AT&T. Carriers do not have the back haul to handle the high volumes of traffic.
