Friend sent this from Met Life stadium today. Said the uploads were failing due to still being in 4G and congestion.

About time. They still have 12 more cities to announce in 6 weeks. Can't be taking 3-5 weeks between announcements anymore

I'm starting to see Verizon adding 5G equipment in Louisville KY. I no longer have Verizon service so I'm not sure if 5G is live here yet. Seen a couple Macro installs and starting to see 5G equipment on utility poles also popping up.

Are these places even on the list of cities with 5G?

Yup. There are a number of small areas in southeast Michigan that have coverage on the map. If you look at VZs 5G map, you can't only go by the red square dots. You have to zoom in on one of the areas which allows you to view street level and move the map around. Surprising how many pockets of coverage there are here.

In the 28 GHz auction Verizon bought at least one 425 MHz block in every county in the US where they didn't already have 28 GHz except Ohio where T-Mobile already owns all the 28 GHz. SO Verizon bought a couple 100 MHZ blocks of 24 GHz. The point is if Verizon didn't have any intention of using mmwave in every county they wouldn't have bought mmwave in every county considering is was sold on a county by county basis

In some of the more rural areas around me I don’t see how millimeterwave will ever be effective. Will be interesting to watch for sure.

Every county has a county seat. That town/city should be densely packed enough that a few mmwave small cells are worth putting up. Small town also don't have a ton of tall building that block mmwave signals so they should actually travel a bit further than the 400-500 feet peopel are getting in the big cities
