I have gigabit fiber from Verizon- $40 a month, no caps. Usually 945/920.

There's a few reasons for the slower UL. TDD subframe ratio, MIMO layers and modulation.

These initial speeds are not very impressive. We have similar speeds in Toronto on LTE.
Love bugging my US friends about how quick our networks are. All hail 2 carriers of 20MHz B7 for Belus

And yet people still can not use their phones without being in fear of going over ridiculous data caps. Why have so much contiguous spectrum when people can't use it? No thanks.

Agreed the data caps are not very good. My point was LTE with more subscribers is providing similar results today. There's lots of room for improvement for Verizon 5G.

They are most certainly using LTE for upload.

    Read:

“Verizon gave an explanation you're going to get pretty familiar with: 5G uploads aren't enabled yet. Those are LTE uploads. They're waiting for a software update. Latency will also get better with time, the carrier said.”

And oh, does Canada have a live NR network on any carrier?

Fair enough, but that's a vendor limitation, not a technology limitation. Our operators have already tested 5G upload on NSA. I'm sure Verizon has tested it too in their lab.

And no, sadly we are way behind on key mobile 5G spectrum auctions, so we will need to wait a few years.

And yet here they are rushing to auction off to 5G providers spectrum that's needed for weather forecasting, resulting in far less accurate forecasts i the future. What gives?

Ugh, uplink keeps getting neglected by carriers. We don’t even have LTE uplink aggregation yet! We’re still relying on single-carrier uplink in twenty freakin nineteen!!

Read the context. I was referring to citizens in Canada who don’t have a single unlimited option.

Just curious. Do you guys have true unlimited or does it get throttled after some amount of usage per month?

Truly unlimited until 22GB, then my plan is de-prioritized.

Chiming in on that, on AT&T deprioritization seems to have little to no effect in most areas. Probably a side effect of how much spectrum they have on air.

Yeah I think our plan prices are on another level. For comparison, in Canada we have 12 GB plans on Fido @ $80, and up to 80 GB plans with premium brands like Rogers and Telus... at $350+ per month!!

Do you guys find you need unlimited? Mostly for video and audio streaming or other things?
