for the no hotspot option. 3 lines is cheaper than 2. they are really trying hard to pump up numbers from people who have absolutely no use for another phone line.

I think it's a promo that expires today. We ported in three lines yesterday.

It actually works out good for us because soon we will need to "park" a phone number for about nine months. Now I won't need to port it to Google Voice and back.

Do you need to port in for the 3rd line?

The MetroPCS site in the mouse print, at the bottom, said only one line needs ported. But, I'd call first. There are port lines available on eBay.

I do not think you have to port in a line. I think you just need to add a line of service:

Promotional Rate Plan: Requires at least one new line of MetroPCS service. On $50 base rate plan, one line is $50, 2 liens are $80, 3 lines are $78. On $60 base rate plan, one line is $60, 2 lines are $90, 3 lines are $90. If new line deactivates, all lines on account lost promotional price. Not eligible for further family plan discount. Not available for more than three (3) lines per household/account. Combinable with select features. Offer not valid in IN.

One could also set up a free Google Voice number and then pay the $3 to release it.

Yeah, but it usually takes several days and the system is sort of unfriendly. One advantage of gv is usually being able to pick your number.

If potential customers aren't confused, then they haven't tried to read the mouse print. Apparently no port is required for the 3 line price, but for the phone discount. Then it says. no more than 3,then elsewhere the limit is 5. Personally, I don't think these contradictions are an accident.
